Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system for building pressure within a secondary braking system (SBS) of a vehicle having a plurality of brakes. The system may comprise a reservoir and a primary braking system (PBS) including a master cylinder including a primary circuit portion, a plurality of valve subsystems, a primary path connecting the master cylinder to the plurality of valve subsystems, and at least one valve disposed along the primary path between the master cylinder and the plurality of valve subsystems. The PBS also includes a secondary path connecting the reservoir to at least one valve subsystem of the plurality of valve subsystems, and no valves are disposed within the secondary path. The SBS is connected to the at least one valve subsystem.

Abstract: A braking system for a vehicle is disclosed. The braking system may have a primary braking system (PBS) having a boost assist subsystem, and an electronic control unit (ECU) for controlling the PBS and the boost assist subsystem. A memory may be in communication with the ECU. A database may be stored in the memory and may define a plurality of category function codes. The codes may define what levels of braking operation may be provided by the PBS when one of a fault or an anomaly is detected. The ECU may further be configured to implement a brake boost evaluation software module to determine whether to apply a requested level of braking being requested by a subsystem of the vehicle when at least one of a malfunction or anomaly is present.

Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing energy consumption within a braking system are provided. In one example, a method includes detecting an energy reduction condition associated with the braking system of the vehicle; energizing a primary circuit apply valve and a secondary circuit apply valve of the braking system in response to detecting the energy reduction condition; de-energizing a motor of a slave cylinder of the braking system in response to energizing the primary circuit apply valve and the secondary circuit apply valve; and de-energizing the primary circuit apply valve and the secondary circuit apply valve of the braking system in response to de-energizing the motor of the slave cylinder.

Abstract: A method and a system are disclosed for validating operation of a secondary braking system (SBS) of a vehicle having a plurality of brakes. The method may involve generating a predetermined braking pressure for at least one brake of the plurality of brakes and calculating, via an electronic control unit (ECU), an estimate of a pump output pressure based upon a counter electromagnetic force generated by a motor within the SBS. The method may further involve comparing an expected pump output pressure to the estimate, wherein the expected pump output pressure corresponds to the predetermined braking pressure and determining whether the SBS is operating properly based upon the comparison.
