Abstract:
THIS APPLICATION DISCLOSES A PROCESS OF PREPARING A SELF-SUPPORTING SHAPED STRUCTURE WHICH COMPRISES POLYMERIZING A SOLID PHASE MONOMER IN THE PRESENCE OF A FLUID CATALYST. SPECIFICALLY, TRIOXANE IS MIXED WITH A RESINOUS BINDER AND THEN POLYMERIZED IN THE PRESENCE OF BORON FLUORIDE. ALSO DISCLOSED IS THE COPOLYMERIZATION OF TRIOXANE WITH DIEPOXIDES.
Abstract:
A PROCESS IS DISCLOSED FOR THE PREPARATION OF TEREPHTHALATE BASED UNSATURATED POLYESTERS BY FIRST REACTING A MONOUNSATURATED DICARBOXYLIC ACID ANHYDRIDE HAVING FROM 4-10 CARBON ATOMS WITH A TEREPHTHALIC ACID GLYCOL ESTER HAVING THE GENERAL FORMULA:
1,4-BIS(HO-R-OOC-)BENZENE
WHEREIN R IS C2 TO C6 ALKYLENE TO FORM A GLYCOL ESTERNONO UNSATURATED ACID ADDUCT AND THEN REACTING THIS ADDUCT WITH AN OXIDE HAVING THE GENERAL FORMULA:
R1-OXIRANE
WHERE R1 IS H OR AN ORGANIC RADICAL HAVING FROM 1 TO 8 CARBON ATOMS. THE RESULTING POLYESTER IS USEFUL IN PREPARING PROTECTIVE COATING AND PLASTICS WHEN BLENDED WITH AN ETHYLENICALLY UNSATURATED MONOMER AND AN ADDITION POLYMERIZATION INITIATOR SYSTEM.
Abstract:
Foamed material suitable for use in connection with agricultural endeavors which is produced by agitating a mixture comprising: (1) a fibrous material, (2) water, (3) a wetting agent, (4) a thickening material, (5) an acrylic polymer emulsion, and (6) a polyepoxide. The foam is then applied onto the surface of the soil where it dries and cures to form an air and water permeable protective coating which retains its structural integrity throughout the growing season and may be broken up and turned into the soil at the beginning of the next season.
Abstract:
A chemical relaxation treatment for increasing dyeability of wet spun difficultly meltable filamentary material such as high melting polyamides, polyurethanes and polyureas which filaments are spun from a concentrated sulfuric acid solution and coagulated in an aqueous sulfuric acid bath. The residual sulfuric acid contained in the filamentary material is subsequently activated to increase the dyeability of the resulting product.
Abstract:
A process is disclosed for the preparation of terephthalate based unsaturated polyesters by first reacting a mono unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride having from 4-10 carbon atoms with a terephthalic acid glycol ester having the general formula: WHEREIN R1 is H or an organic radical having from one to eight carbon atoms. The resulting polyester is useful in preparing protective coatings and plastics when blended with an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and an addition polymerization initiator system.
WHEREIN R is C2 to C6 alkylene to form a glycol ester-mono unsaturated acid adduct and then reacting this adduct with an oxide having the general formula:
Abstract:
A CYLINDRICAL ROD PARTICULARLY SUITABLE AS A CIGARETTE FILTER IS DESCRIBED WHICH IS COMPRISED PREDOMINANTLY OF FOAMED FIBROUS CELLOSE AND A WATER-INSOLUBLE POLYMER HAVING A GLASS TRANSITION TEMPERATURE OF AT MOST 50*C. AND A MINOR AMOUNT OF WETTING AGENT, THE WEIGHT RATIO OF THE POLYMER TO THE FIBROUS CELLULOSE BEING AT LEAST ABOUT 0.4, SAID ROD BEING ENCASED BY A SKIN OF SAID POLYMER.
