Abstract: A quantity of finely divided inert particles is fluidized by a high velocity stream of cold air directed against the particles from the bottom while waste material is fed into the fluidized particles from the top. The particles are initially pre-heated to a temperature sufficient to cause combustion of the waste material by passing a low velocity stream of hot air through the volume of particles from its top to its bottom.
