Abstract:
The invention provides an optical circulator that comprises three ports with the property that light entered through the nth port is output through the (n+1)th port. It can be applied to optical fiber transmission of optical signals. It uses a reflector to make a two-core fiber collimator to be a first port and a second port of the optical circulator so as to minimize the optical circulator volume and to simplify the assembly procedure. A reciprocal crystal and a non-reciprocal crystal are combined to form an optical polarization controller to conquer such technical problems as the conjugate angle of the two-core collimator and the minimal polarization mode dispersion. In particular, the corresponding relation between the Faraday rotator and the birefringent crystal optical axis can be utilized to remove half-wave plates used in ordinary optical circulators, thus lowering manufacturing costs and complexities.
Abstract:
This specification discloses a reflective optical circulator, which uses an optical reflective device to reflect an incident light beam from an optical port so that the reflected light beams further pass through all optical devices (i.e., all sorts of optical crystals) on the optical paths. With a proper reciprocal-non-reciprocal optical crystal combination, a particular linear polarization direction is generated to guide the reflected beams to the next optical port. The invention achieves the effect of repeatedly using crystals, lowering the number of crystals and the length of the optical circulator. On the other hand, all optical ports can be installed on the same side of the optical circulator, minimizing the device and making it easy to use.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to a polarization independent tunable acousto-optical filter and the corresponding method. The filter diffracts an input light beam into a first input light beam unaffected by acoustic waves and a second input light beam affected by acoustic waves. A polarization beam displacer/combiner is employed to separate the input light beam into two orthogonal beams. Several polarized rotators are used to rotate the polarization of light by 90 degrees. An acousto-optical device makes the polarization of light with a particular wavelength rotate by 90 degrees. The two beams are then properly combined to form orthogonal beams. The filtering method has nothing to do with the polarization of the incident light. The filter has such advantages as a high extinction ratio, a small volume and a lower cost.

A lens defines central axis, and includes a light receiving surface, a light reflecting surface, and a light exiting surface. The light reflecting surface is opposite to the light receiving surface along the central axis. The light exiting surface extends between the light receiving surface and the light reflecting surface. When a light source emits a light, a portion of the light emitted by the light source passes through the light receiving surface, and is incident on and is reflected by the light reflecting surface to the light exiting surface so as to exit the lens in directions perpendicular to the light exiting surface.

The light source control method includes steps of generating a first signal according to an object touching a position of the position detecting sensor, and generating a control signal according to a light source adjustable parameter set corresponding to the first signal for controlling an illuminating status of the light source. The light source adjustable parameter set includes a plurality of color value components. The control signal is generated by the microcontroller according to the color value components.
Abstract:
A light feedback control system can obtain a correct light feedback signal for a backlight source by using an optical sensor disposed inside a backlight unit or outside a display device after subtracting the effect of ambient light sensed by the optical sensor when a backlight element is turned off. The optical sensor senses light intensity and the ambient light source at a double frequency of the frequency at which a backlight element emits light. The light feedback control system may further control the ambient light source and the backlight element, driving them to illuminate alternately, while the optical sensor synchronizes with the backlight element and senses light signals of the backlight element. Accordingly, exact information about the light intensity or color of the backlight element can be obtained for feedback control of the display device.

An illumination assembly includes a first diode row having first and second multi-chip LED units, and a second diode row having third and fourth multi-chip LED units. The first through fourth multi-chip LED units each includes red, green, and blue LEDs. Light of the red, green, and blue LEDs of the first through fourth multi-chip LED units has a respective primary emission direction (PED). The PEDs of same colored ones of the LEDs of the first and second multi-chip LED units are oriented along one direction. The PEDs of the remaining two LEDs of the first and second multi-chip LED units are oriented in opposite directions from each other. The PEDs of the LEDs of the third and fourth multi-chip LED units are oriented in opposite directions as compared to those of the LEDs of the first and second multi-chip LED units, respectively.
Abstract:
An optical add/drop multiplexer capable of extracting signals from within a specified waveband in a group of signals containing various wavelengths, and then adding back a new set of signals also within the specified waveband. The multiplexer includes an optical filter plate, a plane reflector and three graded-index lenses. Using a single optical filtering plate and a plane reflector to carry out multiple reflections, intra-band isolation of light signals is improved and cost of production is reduced.

The driving apparatus includes at least one thermal sensor, an optical sensor, and a processor. The thermal sensor is for detecting a working temperature of the LEDs. The optical sensor is for detecting brightness and color of the backlight module after a calibration function is enabled, to obtain difference values of the detected brightness and color with respect to predetermined brightness and color. The processor is for providing at least one initial thermal compensation table, to determine working currents of the LEDs associated with the working temperature. The processor further is for calibrating a content of the initial thermal compensation table corresponding with a current working temperature of the LEDs and storing the calibrated thermal compensation table as the initial thermal compensation table after the calibration function is enabled.
