    Abstract: A lower mandrel threadedly connected to a subsurface pump barrel at its lower end is threadedly connected to an upper mandrel and through which a rod assembly adapted to reciprocate a pump piston through such barrel is adapted to be lowered from the earth''s surface by the rod assembly to a restricted diameter tubing seal located within a tubing string in an earth borehole. A collected tubular member adapted to rotate about the lower mandrel is caused to deflect inwardly in passing through the tubing seal ring and further movement of the apparatus through the seal ring causes it to be locked in place within the tubing string. The single split collet entails a lower split shoulder which can deflect through the sealing ring with a second upper shoulder tapered to fit the taper on the top of the seal ring after passing through the ring, the lower shoulder of the collet being allowed to expand out to lock against the bottom of the sealing ring and hold the upper shoulder of the collet locked against the upper shoulder of the ring to thereby obtain a fluid seal between them.

    Abstract: The ball in the valve assembly has a conical cavity which is used to guide the ball onto a cone whose tip extends into the conical cavity of the ball at rest on the seat of the valve. The tip of the cone guides the ball onto the cone each time the ball rises. In an alternative embodiment, the cavity within the ball is cylindrical shaped, and the tip of a cylindrically shaped guide extends into the cavity whereby the tip of the cylinder guides the ball onto the cylinder each time the ball rises. In yet another embodiment, a cylindrical shaped guide is molded as an integral part of the ball, the tip of the cylinder extending into a cylindrical shaped housing whereby the cylinder is guided into the housing each time the ball rises. The embodiments utilizing cylindrical shaped guides and cavities or receptacles are sized such that a limited amount of rotation of the ball can occur.

    Abstract: A slip or gripping member that is used on well tools to lock the well tools at a desired location in a well bore. The slip is movably mounted on the well tool and is provided with wall engaging teeth on relatively opposite sides thereof adjacent to each end. The wall engaging teeth are separated on the slip by a distance that is greater than the diameter of the well bore so that movement of the slip to an angular position brings the teeth into engagement with the well bore wall. Relatively movable abutments are provided on the well tool which are brought into engagement with at least one end of the slip to cause the slip to move into the position wherein the teeth are in engagement with the well bore wall. The slip is constructed so that when the teeth are out of engagement with the well bore wall, the tool with the slips thereon is freely movable through the well bore. The slip is useful in connection with well tools such as packers or anchors and may be actuated by fluid pressure or by mechanical means. The slip teeth are curved and adjacent teeth have different radii of curvature, resulting in a curved bounding profile in a plane containing the central longitudinal axis of the slip.
