Abstract: Methods and systems for determining a position of a battery cell within a battery system comprising a plurality of battery cells are disclosed. Each battery cell has a unique identifier, and each battery cell is configured to experience a change in voltage when an electrical stimulus is applied to the battery cell. The method comprises receiving a first signal associated with a first battery cell experiencing a change in voltage due to an electrical stimulus applied to the battery cell; obtaining the unique ID associated with the first battery cell; determining the position of the first battery cell, based on the received first signal associated with the first battery cell; and associating the determined position with the obtained unique ID of the first battery cell.

Abstract: A method of and processor for determining a position of a battery cell within a battery system comprising a plurality of battery cells, each battery cell having a unique identifier (ID) is provided. Each battery cell is configured to emit a first signal when in a first state, the first signal enabling the battery cell in the first state to be distinguished from the plurality of other battery cells comprised in the battery system. The method may comprise: receiving a first signal associated with a battery cell in the first state; obtaining the unique ID associated with the battery cell in the first state; determining the position of the battery cell in the first state within the battery system, based on the received first signal associated with the battery cell in the first state; and associating the determined position with the received unique ID of the battery cell in the first state.

Abstract: A pouch cell battery assembly is disclosed, comprising a pouch cell battery and an electronic device. The pouch cell battery comprises: an expandable enclosure, accommodating an anode stack, a cathode stack, and a separator disposed between the anode and cathode stacks; first and second contact terminals, the first contact terminal being electrically coupled to the anode stack and the second contact terminal being electrically coupled to the cathode stack. The electronic device may be at least partly affixed to the expandable enclosure, and electrically coupled to the first and second contact terminals. The electronic device may be configured to determine at least one physical characteristic of the pouch cell battery.
