Abstract:
HYDROCARBYL - HYDROXYVPHENYL - DIHYDROCARBYLDITHIOCARBAMATES AE PREPARED BY THE REACTION OF DIHYDROCARBYL HALOPHENOLS WITH A METAL SALT OF A DIHYDROCARBYLTHIOCARBAMATE. FOR EXAMPLE, THE REACTION OF 2,6-DI-TERT-BUTYL-4BROMOPHENOL WITH THE SODIUM ALST OF DIMETHYLDITHIOCARBAMATE YIELDS 3,5-DI-TERT-BUTYL-4-HYDROXYPHENYL DIMETHYL DITHIOCARBAMATE. THE COMPOUNDS ARE USEFUL AS ANTIOXIDANTS. EFFECTIVENESS IS ENHANCED BY DIHYDROCARBYL THIODIALKANOATES AND ORGANIC PHOSPHITES OR PHOSPHONATES.

A PROCESS FOR ALKYLATING A PHENOL HAVING AT LEAST ONE REPLACEABLE NUCLEAR HYDROGEN ATOM IN AN ORTHO OR PARA POSITION, SAID PHENOL BEING SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF PHENOL AND ALKYL-SUBSTITUTED PHENOLS, SSAID PROCESS COMPRISING REACTING SAID PHENOL WITH A PRIMARY OR SECONDARY C1-20 ALKYL AMINE IN CONTACT WITH A HYDROGENATION-DEHYDROGENATION CATALYST, SAID CATALYST CONTAINING A CATALYTIC METAL SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF PALLADIUM, RHODIUM, PLATINUM, NICKEL, COPPER, CHROMIUM, COBALT, MOLYBDENUM, VANDADIUM, ZINC, URANIUM AND TUNGSTEN, AT A TEMPERATURE OFF FROM ABOUT 125-500* C., SAID C1-20 ALKYL AMINE HAVING AT LEAST ONE HYDROGEN ATOM BONDED TO AN ALPHA ALKYL CARBON ATOM AND AT LEAST ONE HYDROGEN ATOM BONDED TO THE AMINE NITROGEN ATOM.
Abstract:
Organic material, especially polypropylene, is stabilized by the addition of mono- or di- (dihydrocarbyl-hydroxyphenyl) alkyl phosphates, phosphites, thiophosphates or thiophosphites, such as 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl di-n-octadecyl phosphate. Effectiveness is synergistically improved by inclusion of a dialkyl thiodialkanoate such as dilaurylthiodipropionate.
