Abstract:
A suspended-particle device with improved adhesion between the active and conductive layers is disclosed. The conductive layers are coated with an adhesion promoter that comprises at least one organosilane that covalently bonds to the surface of the conductive layer and comprises a cross-linkable moiety such as an acrylate. The active layer comprises a suspension of active particles in a polymer matrix that comprises a polymer having pendant cross-linkable moieties such as acrylates. Upon curing (e.g. by irradiation by ultraviolet light), the polymer matrix of the active layer cross-links with the cross-linkable moieties of the adhesion promoter, thereby binding the active and conductive layers.
Abstract:
A system for reducing energy usage in a heat controlled device comprises a transparency adjustment device (TAD) including a transparent physical element whose electrical behavior is that of a capacitive load and a power dimmer apparatus operative to provide AC current to the transparent physical element to generate a set of transparency states between opaque and full transparent. The system also comprises a heat control device including a closed walled cavity and a thermometer adapted to control temperature in the cavity. The TAD is embedded in at least a portion of the cavity wall. The TAD reduces the thermometer energy consumption by enabling view of the cavity content without opening the cavity.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a solar reflective-absorptive device, comprising: an IR reflective transparent conductive film; a flexible transparent conductive film; a layer of liquid crystal dispersion in polymer matrix or polymer dispersion in liquid crystal domains allocated between said flexible IR reflective transparent conductive film and said flexible transparent conductive film. The liquid crystal dispersion is in polymer matrix or polymer dispersion domains, and comprises metalorganic dye compositions with absorption in the visible and/or IR regions of solar spectrum. The aforesaid liquid crystal dispersion consists of nematic mixtures and/or cholestenc mixtures comprising of chiral mesogenic or none-mesogenic chiral materials in nematic for IR absorption and/or broadband cholesteric materials for dynamic (electrically tunable) IR and visible absorption. The switching capability of the device will be carried out through reorientation of the liquid crystal dispersion sandwiched between said at least one transparent IR-reflective flexible conductive support and said transparent flexible conductive support.
