[Class 56.] A glass, which is suitable for the envelope of a luminous electric discharge tube containing mercury, contains 4-18 per cent of boric oxide, 3-10 per cent of alkaline earths, and 15-22 per cent of alkalis, potassium oxide constituting at least two thirds of the alkali. Alumina may be added in quantities up to 5 per cent in order to make the glass work more easily in the flame. Examples of suitable glasses are given in the Specification and Specification 411,029 is referred to.
