Abstract: An inflator of the augmented type includes a pressure vessel having an outlet opening to an occupant restraint system and a combustion chamber containing a gas generating charge of propellant and having an outlet opening to the pressure vessel. A rupturable seal closes the pressure vessel outlet. A pressure deflectable and rupturable seal closes the outlet of the combustion chamber. A rod has one end fixed to the pressure vessel seal and the other end fixed to the combustion chamber seal to rigidly interconnect these members to each other. When the pressure vessel is filled, the pressure of the fluid seats the deflectable seal on the combustion chamber to correspond the spacing of the seals to the length of the rod. By fixedly interconnecting the seals, the pressure of the fluid on one seal tending to rupture it in one direction is resisted by the pressure of the fluid on the other tending to rupture it in the other direction.

Abstract: The illustrated two-speed accessory drive transmission includes centrifugal clutch shoes and a planetary friction unit, with spring means for urging the shoes into frictional driving contact with a clutch drum and thereby actuating the planetary unit during low engine speeds for driving the output member in overdrive, and a one-way clutch for interconnecting the output and input in a direct drive relationship upon disengagement of the shoes from the clutch drum under the action of centrifugal force, with a pin or roller mounted between an input member and a ramp formed on the clutch shoes to control disengagement of the clutch at a first predetermined speed and the reengagement thereof at a lower predetermined speed than the first predetermined speed, in both instances without undue slippage.

Abstract: An inflator of the augmented type includes a pressure vessel and a combustion chamber containing a gas generating charge of propellant and having a wall provided with an outlet opening to the pressure vessel. A cap telescopes over the combustion chamber and seats against a flat of the wall adjacent to the outlet. The cap is secured to the combustion chamber and mounts a rod for impacting a severable plug of the pressure vessel to open the plug and communicate the pressure vessel with an occupant restraint cushion when the charge of propellant is initiated and the resultant high pressure gases blow the cap from the opening.
