Abstract: A head-up display system of a vehicle visually transmits information to eyes of a first occupant and eyes of a second occupant. The system includes an illumination device emitting first and second display lights having first and second polarizations, respectively. The system includes a windshield and a holographic panel including first and second layers. The display lights emit toward the holographic panel at an entrance angle relative to an axis normal to the holographic panel. The first layer diffracts the first display light having the first polarization in a first exit direction at a first exit angle relative to the axis toward the eyes of the first occupant. The second layer diffracts the second display light having the second polarization in a second exit direction at a second exit angle relative to the axis, and different than the first exit angle, toward the eyes of the second occupant.

Abstract: A method for holographic display calibration using phase modulation includes projecting an initial graphic on a windshield of a vehicle, capturing an image of the initial graphic with a camera inside a vehicle, determining a loss function value between the image of the initial graphic captured by the camera and a target graphic, modulating a phase of a light beam generating the initial graphic using the loss function value to generate an updated graphic, and displaying the updated graphic on the windshield of the vehicle.

Abstract: A head-up display for displaying graphics upon a windscreen of a vehicle includes a graphic projection module for generating images upon the windscreen of the vehicle, a user input device for receiving user-generated commands created by a user of the vehicle, and one or more controllers in electronic communication with the graphic projection module and the user input device. The controller executes instructions to instruct the graphic projection module to generate a luminance adjustment graphic, where the luminance adjustment graphic includes an adaptive color palette graphic including two or more colors. The controller receives, from the user input device, a user-generated luminance input indicating a change in a level of luminance in a selected color, where the change in the level of luminance in the selected color is selected by the user to discern differences between the two or more colors caused by a color vision deficiency.
