    Abstract: The present invention provides a sealed housing unit and a method for its manufacture, wherein the sealed housing unit can protect light-emitting elements and the connected electronic circuitry from moisture. The sealed housing unit comprises a thermally conductive base onto which an array of light-emitting elements is mounted. A frame is sealingly connected to the thermally conductive base circumferentially enclosing the array of light-emitting elements and connected circuitry. An optically transmissive panel sufficiently sized to span the area defined by the frame, is sealingly connected to the frame to form a sealed cavity enclosing the array of light-emitting elements and the connected circuitry. The light-emitting elements can be electrically activated via electrical wires provided through one or more apertures within the thermally conductive base or the frame. Each aperture comprises a form of sealing means which suppresses the penetration of moisture.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a modular panel lighting apparatus comprising a multi layer power board and one or more lighting modules. The power board is a compound structure of one or more electrically conductive layers which are separated by one or more electrically insulating layers. The power board is configured to receive one or more lighting modules and can provide electrical, mechanical and thermal function adequate to meet a desired functionality of the lighting apparatus. A lighting module comprises one or more light-emitting elements operatively attached to a connector element that has one or more electrical contact portions. By inserting the connector element into the power board, the lighting module can be mounted anywhere on the face of the power board. When appropriately inserted into the power board, the one or more electrical contact portions of the connector element can establish selective electrical contact with the conductive layers of the power board and can secure the lighting module in place.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a cove illumination module for use in a plurality of illumination applications wherein a particular type of cove type illumination pattern is desired due to close proximity between the cove illumination module and a to-be-illuminated surface. The cove illumination module comprises a substrate to which a plurality of light-emitting elements is operatively connected. Optionally, the substrate can form a base portion of the cove illumination module. An external housing unit is sealingly mated with the substrate in order to environmentally seal the light-emitting elements. The external housing unit comprises one or more optical elements which can shape the beams of light emitted by the light-emitting elements under operating conditions and generate a desired illumination pattern on a lit surface, thereby providing a cove type illumination pattern.
