To provide a technology enabling a terminal device to use various functions provided in a data processing device without the use of a device driver. A multifunction device executes a process for implementing a function indicated by instruction data when such instruction data is stored in a shared area of the RAM. Here, the shared area of the RAM in which the instruction data is stored can be recognized by a personal computer connected to the multifunction device as a storage area that can be accessed through the file system, which is a function provided as a standard feature of the operating system. Accordingly, operations of the multifunction device can be controlled from the personal computer end simply by storing instruction data in the shared area via the operating system, eliminating the need for a special device driver to control the operations of the multifunction device.

An information processing device includes: an image data receiving unit which receives image data of each page of a double-sided document generated by a document scanning device by double-side scanning of the document; a recognizable direction adjustment information receiving unit which receives recognizable direction adjustment information outputted by the document scanning device as information to be used for adjusting a recognizable direction of the image data of a back page of the document to a standard recognizable direction which is defined as the recognizable direction of the image data of a front page of the document; and a vertical inversion unit which vertically inverts the image data of the back page as needed based on the recognizable direction adjustment information so that the recognizable direction of the image data of the back page will be in the standard recognizable direction.

An information processor has an older version program and a latest version program of the same application software installed thereon, and makes a modification from a configuration for starting the older version program if occurrence of a predetermined start event is detected, to a configuration for starting the latest version program when the occurrence of the predetermined start event is detected. The information processor includes: an older version detection unit; a path name modification unit; and a start program file generation unit. The older version detection unit detects the older version program installed on the information processor. The path name modification unit modifies a first path name of a file storing the older version program to a second path name if the older version detection unit detects the older version program. The start program file generation unit generates a start program file storing a start program. The start program starts the latest version program if the latest version program installed on the information processor is detected, and starts the older version program stored in a file having the second path name if the latest version program is not detected. The start program file generation unit generates the start program file as a file having the first path name, after the path name modification unit executes the path name modification.

The display unit displays, in the first region, one of a plurality of screen images managed hierarchically. The plurality of screen images includes a first screen image and a second screen image. The storing unit stores a plurality of character strings corresponding to the plurality of screen images. The navigation string generating unit includes a specifying unit and a generating unit. The specifying unit specifies a setting value selected for at least the second screen image that was navigated through to arrive at the first screen image currently displayed in the first region. The generating unit generates a navigation string including at least one of the character strings corresponding to the second screen image and a setting data representing the setting value. The display control unit controls the display unit to display the navigation string in the second region.

An image processing method controls a computer and an image processing device connected to the computer to perform an image processing. The computer includes a plurality of drivers that controls the image processing device. The image processing method includes (a) controlling the image processing device by using one of the plurality of drivers, (b) storing, in a storing unit, error information indicating which one of the plurality of drivers is used when an error is occurred in the controlling step (a), (c) accessing to the error information stored in the storing step (b), (d) selecting a subject driver from the plurality of drivers based on the error information accessed in the accessing step (c), and (e) controlling the image processing device via the subject driver selected in the selecting step (d).
