    Abstract: An improved CCFL gas discharge device that uses a principal amalgam alone to control the mercury vapor pressure inside its glass envelope so that it can generate optimum light output while being enclosed inside a light-transmitting container with high ambient temperature. Another embodiment of the present invention uses a fast start circuitry in the electronic driver that allows the CCFL to reach optimum intensity within two minutes of start in case when a high-melting point principal amalgam is used. Still another embodiment of the present invention uses a complimentary pair of PNP and NPN transistor to reduce the complexity of the electronic driver so that it uses fewer components and is more compact.

    Abstract: A CCFL device has at least one CCFL inside a hermetically-sealed light-transmitting container that is filled with a high thermal conducitivity such as helium. A heat-conducting compound forms with the electronic driver and the lamp base into an integral ballast assembly, so that no housing for the driver is needed. The integral ballast assembly connects electrically to the electrodes of the CCFL, receives electricity through its lamp base, and uses a container connection member to connect to the light-transmitting container.

    Abstract: A CCFL device using a heat-conductive compound that may also be light-transmitting to embed both its heat generating components, i.e., the electronic driver and the CCFL filament, so that there is no air trapped between these two heat sources and the outer surface of the device. The heat-conductive compound also forms its own surfaces that are exposed directly to air, so that the heat generated by the CCFL filament and the electronic driver is dissipated swiftly into the atmosphere. One embodiment of the present invention attaches the lamp filament support member to the integral ballast assembly, so it is no longer connected to the light-transmitting container in order to support the CCFL filament, thereby simplifies the manufacturing process significantly.
