    Abstract: A method of operating a testing machine includes obtaining first sensor outputs from a first load cell indicative of forces on sensors of the first load cell at a first end of a test specimen. The method further includes obtaining second sensor outputs from a second load cell indicative of forces on sensors of the second load cell at a second opposite end of the test specimen mounted in a second grip. Forces at the sensors of the first load cell and sensors of the second load cell are determined from the first sensor outputs and the second sensor outputs. The test specimen is coaxially aligned with the first and second grips along an axis by adjusting at least one of an alignment device of the testing machine or at least one of a position of the test specimen in the first or second grip.

    Abstract: An extensometer structure includes a flexure assembly having a support mount, a first contact device mount rigidly fixed to the support mount and a second contact device mount coupled to the support mount by an upper flexure arm and a lower flexure arm. The upper flexure arm is spaced apart from and arranged directly above and in alignment with the lower flexure arm. The second contact device mount is configured to vertically travel relative to the first contact device mount.

    Abstract: A load cell body for transmitting forces and moments in plural directions includes a rigid central hub having a central axis and a rigid annular ring concentric with the central hub about the central axis. At least three radial members extend radially with respect to the central axis along corresponding longitudinal axes from the central hub to the annular ring where each radial member includes a center body with an aperture extending there through along an aperture axis that is parallel to the central axis. A first flexure joins the center body to the central hub, while a second flexure joins the center body to the annular ring.
