Abstract: The invention includes a package reclosing strip, and the combination of a package and the reclosing strip detachably secured thereto for closing the package after opening and removal of some of the contents. The package is formed from a web of packaging material and has a closed body with height, width, opposite ends defining the package height therebetween, and a package reclosing strip comprising in one embodiment a film strip extending longitudinally the height of the package, and a single faced adhesive coated tape longitudinally co-extensive with and laterally partially overlying and adhered to the film strip, the adhesive coated longitudinally extending portion of the tape not adhered to the film strip being adhered to the package body and detachably securing the strip thereto. A second embodiment of the reclosing strip comprises a film substrate and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer coated onto the full length and a widthwise portion of the film substrate strip. The reclosing strip is made of less expensive materials than the package material and that of prior art structures. Graphics can be printed on the film strip. which is laterally positionable on the package, and avoids adhesive contamination because it is not detached from the package.

Abstract: A package reclosing strip includes an adhesive layer that extends the full width of a flexible film strip. Formation of a dry edge on the strip, suitable for grasping by the user, is accomplished either by adhering a strip of material such as a dry tape or by the application of a liquid overcoating which chemically deadens the adhesive. The dry edge tape material is preferably made of mono-oriented polypropylene. The film strip is substantially transparent and includes graphics on the underside, beneath the adhesive coating. The graphics show through the film strip, providing visibility of the graphics from the outside.

Abstract: Novel package wrappers made of humidity resistant plastic, utilizing a teartape disposed proximate to, but spaced inward from, one edge of the package, extending substantially linearly continuously about three adjacent sides. The teartape in one form of the invention is a separate tape adhered to the package wrapper, and in another form of the invention is integral with and formed from the package wrapper itself. The package is completely sealed but does not require the use of any tool to open it. After the teartape has been removed, fingers or a thumb may be inserted beneath the revealed torn edge of the wrapper and the wrapper torn downward through slits in the then exposed portions of the ends of the package wrapper which had been previously overlaid by the teartape ends, such slits being concealingly disposed and sealed beneath the overlying ends of the intact wrapper before removal of the teartape. By locating the teartape fairly closely to one edge of the package and providing the underlying tear down slits in the package wrapper ends, the intact upper corners of the opened package are able to slide smoothly over and down around the corners of the contained product without exerting any substantial pressure thereon, so that no corner curling force is exerted on the sheets sufficient to cause corner distortion. The wrapper is quickly and easily removable from the contents, so that the dry undistorted paper may be quickly loaded into a copy machine.
