Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, an optical member, a drive device, a motive device, and a control device. On a surface of the image carrier, a scanning line is formed, through a scanning operation with scanning light. The optical member emits the scanning light to the image carrier. The drive device changes a posture of the optical member, to adjust a skew of the scanning line on the image carrier. The motive device drives the drive device. The control device controls the motive device. Further, the control device decides that at least one of the drive device and the motive device are malfunctioning, when a skew amount remains higher than a predetermined permissible value, despite changing the posture of the optical member a predetermined number of times, through control of the drive device by the motive device.

Abstract: A casing for an optical scanning device is configured to accommodate therein a scanning optical system. The casing includes a main body, a lid, a first positioning mechanism, and a second positioning mechanism. The main body includes an opening formed in an upper face. The lid closes the opening of the main body. The first positioning mechanism positions, when a plurality of the main bodies are stacked in a plurality of stages, the main body on an upper stage in a horizontal direction and a height direction, with respect to the main body on a lower stage. The second positioning mechanism positions, when a plurality of the casings, each having the lid attached thereto, are stacked in a plurality of stages, the casing on the upper stage in the horizontal direction and the height direction, with respect to the casing on the lower stage.

Abstract: Provided is a scanning device including a first irradiation unit, a second irradiation unit, a scanning unit, a waveguide unit, and a detection unit. The first irradiation unit radiates a first electromagnetic wave for scanning an object of interest. The second irradiation unit radiates a second electromagnetic wave. The scanning unit deflects and outputs the first electromagnetic wave radiated by the first irradiation unit and the second electromagnetic wave radiated by the second irradiation unit. The waveguide unit guides at least part of the second electromagnetic wave, output by the scanning unit, in a different direction from the first electromagnetic wave. The detection unit detects the second electromagnetic wave guided in the different direction from the first electromagnetic wave by the waveguide unit.
