Abstract:
An apparatus and method for generating alerting sounds and broadcasting the same into the interior of a building so that an occupant can be made aware of an emergency, warning, etc. or of the building for various other purposes such as to greet a visitor or accept a package or sign documents from a transporter drone or robot. The sounds are generated by an exciter feature of a transducer held in a case, the exciter feature being able to be pressed against an exterior surface. The transducer vibrates its exciter feature in correspondence with audio signals transmitted to the transducer to broadcast corresponding sounds into the interior of the building by resonance induced in the door or other building member by the vibrating exciter feature. The sounds may resemble conventional alerting sounds such as a knocking or ringing sounds, and/or can be a spoken message either prerecorded in an audio source or created contemporaneously by being spoken by a user into a microphone. The device may be hand carried door to door as by delivery personnel and emergency workers and used to effectively alert occupants and eliminate the need for hand knocking or yelling a message through the door, or is mounted to a drone, robot, or other transporter device, or to some other portable device. The device may also be used to broadcast sounds in an open area by holding the exciter feature against a sign board or other structure in an open area.
Abstract:
A method of measuring the weight of mass of incremental sections of an item using protraction of radiation through each section and measuring the intensity of radiation after passing through the item. The weight can be summed to determine the weight of any segment of the item.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for displaying the weight or cost of segments of an irregularly shaped item involves passing a sensor bar supported above a supporting surface over the item lying on the surface. A compact hand-held embodiment of the sensor bar enables the operator to move the sensor bar in various linear or non-linear motions over the item surface as the sensor bar moves laterally across the item surface while the sensor bar support posts remain in constant contact with the supporting surface. The sensor bar contains one or more sensors which generate signals corresponding to the height of the item as the sensor bar traverses the item. At the same time, a displacement detector arrangement generates signals corresponding to displacement of the sensor bar relative to the support surface. These signals are processed in a signal processor to determine the volume of an uncut segment of the item lying behind the sensor bar at successive positions. Each of these cumulative volume determinations may be continuously converted into numeric weight values based on the density factor for the particular type of item, whereby numeric weight and cost values (based on weight) are continuously displayed as the sensor bar is stroked over the item, thus enabling the operator to accommodate an on-looking consumer's specific requests as per the particular portion desired based on the physical appearance, weight, and cost of an item before the item is cut.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method for displaying the weight or cost of an uncut selected segment of an item involves passing a position indicating member over the item lying on a support surface. The position indicating member carries one or more sensors which generate signals corresponding to succeeding cross sectional contours of the item as the member is traversed along the item from a reference position to a selected other position over this item, defining the selected segment of the item. At the same time, a motion detector arrangement preferably comprised of one or more microelectromechanical (MEMS) accelerometer devices generates signals corresponding to motion of the position indicator support member as it is moved along the item. These signals are processed in a signal processor to determine the volume of the uncut selected segment of the item lying between selected successive positions of the indication member. Each of these cumulative volume determinations are converted into numeric weight or price values based on the density factor for the particular type of item, whereby numeric weight and price values (based on weight) are displayed as the member is traversed along the item, thus enabling the operator to contemporaneously provide an on-looking consumer weight or price information before a particular segment is cut from the item. A visible light band is projected from the sensor bar onto a section of the item to clearly show the selected segment bounds corresponding to the numeric display to the onlooker.

A method and device for generating alerting sounds and broadcasting the same into the interior of a building so that an occupant can be made aware of the presence of a visitor at a door to the building. The sounds are generated by an exciter feature of a transducer held in a case, able to be gripped in one hand of a user, the exciter feature being able to be pressed against an exterior surface of the door by the user moving the case to a position adjacent to the door. The transducer vibrates its exciter feature in correspondence with audio signals transmitted to the transducer to broadcast corresponding sounds into the interior of the building by resonance induced in the door by the vibrating exciter feature. The sounds can resemble conventional alerting sounds such as a knocking or ringing sounds, and/or can be a spoken message either prerecorded in an audio source or created contemporaneously by being spoken by the user into a microphone. Abstract:
An audio visual device in which a flexible sheet carries at least partially interspersed arrays of audio and video elements, the video elements able to display or sense images to act as a display and/or a camera and the audio elements able to reproduce or sense sounds to act as a speaker and/or a microphone.
