Abstract: A line-field parallel swept optical coherence tomography (OCT) system optimized for high-resolution ophthalmic imaging and capable of broad industrial applications. The system employs a gain chip using gallium-aluminum-arsenide (GaAlAs) for light amplification within a specific “water window” wavelength range, suitable for deep tissue imaging. The design incorporates a hermetically sealed packaging with an optional thermoelectric cooler and utilizes a single angled facet (SAF) with high reflectivity and antireflective coatings to enhance laser performance. The optical path includes a collimating lens, a cat's eye focusing lens, and a bandpass filter adjustable via an angle control actuator for dynamic wavelength tuning. The system features a rotator-derotator mechanism utilizing Dove prisms or k-mirror devices, for example, for precise radial scanning. Abstract: A spectroscopy system and method enhance the resolution of narrow spectral features by modulating the injection current of a gain chip in a tunable laser. The system includes a tunable laser with an external cavity formed between the gain chip and an external reflector, containing a wavelength-selective element like a tilt-tuned interference filter. An oscillator drive signal modulates the injection current at high frequency and amplitude, altering the effective optical length of the external cavity and shifting the cavity modes over a range sufficient to resolve narrow spectral lines. This modulation ensures effective interaction with narrow absorption features in the sample. Operating at frequencies above the detector's bandwidth allows averaging over the modulation, reducing noise and improving signal quality. This technique is particularly beneficial for low-pressure gas spectroscopy, enabling precise detection and analysis of specific species within a sample.

Abstract: A spectroscopy system comprises a tunable laser including a gain chip, a collimating lens for collimating light from the gain chip, an end reflector, a focusing lens for focusing the collimated light on the end reflector, a thin film bandpass filter between the collimating lens and the focusing lens, and an angle control actuator for changing the angle of the thin film filter to the collimated light. The light from the laser is coupled into a sample cell providing a sample. An amplitude detector detects light from the tunable laser prior to passing into the sample cell and a sample detector detecting light from the tunable laser after passing through the sample cell. A processor controls the angle control actuator and monitors a time response of the sample detector and the amplitude detector to resolve an absorption spectra of the sample.
