Abstract:
An active cable that communicates over much of its length using one or more optical fibers, but which includes at integrated electrical connector at least one of its ends. The cable may be an electrical to optical cable, and electrical to electrical cable, or one of many other potential configurations.
Abstract:
Fiber stub interface for reducing cladding mode light. The fiber stub can be implemented in an optical transmission device. The optical transmission device can be a transceiver that also includes an optical signal receiver. The fiber stub includes an optical fiber and a ferrule. The optical fiber includes both a core and a cladding. The ferrule includes a glass material with a refractive index that is greater than the refractive index of at least a portion of the optical fiber. As a result, the cladding modes are refracted into the ferrule and away from the core, thereby reducing the chance that they are transmitted to an external optical fiber. An absorptive layer can be applied to an outer surface of the ferrule to absorb the refracted cladding modes.
Abstract:
A transmitter optical subassembly includes an optical emitter and a fiber receptacle within which an optical fiber is received. An optical limiting element is positioned between the optical emitter and the fiber receptacle. When an optical signal is emitted from the optical emitter, the optical signal passes through the optical limiting element before the optical signal reaches the fiber receptacle and is received by the optical fiber. The optical limiting element has a property such that if the power of the optical signal entering the optical limiting element exceeds a predetermined limit, the power of the optical signal is optically attenuated so that the power of the optical signal exiting the optical limiting element remains below a predetermined limit.
Abstract:
Systems, devices and methods are disclosed for adjusting the operating characteristic of an optical signal transmitted by an optoelectronic device based on the operational data rate, as is indicated by a ‘rate select’ signal. The rate select can be generated automatically, or can be transmitted from a host device. One example of an operating characteristic that can be adjusted is the optical modulation level of the transmitted signal.
Abstract:
An electrical connector that is integrated within an active cable at one end of the active cable, wherein the active cable is configured to communicate over much of its length using one or more optical fibers. The cable may be an electrical to optical cable, and electrical to electrical cable, or one of many other potential configurations.
Abstract:
An active cable that is configured to communicate over much of its length using one or more optical fibers, and that includes an integrated electrical connector at at least one end. The active cable includes a power transmission spanning the length of the optical fiber(s). Thus, electrical power from one end of the optical cable may be provided to an opposite side of the optical cable. The cable may be an electrical to optical cable, and electrical to electrical cable, or one of many other potential configurations.
Abstract:
This disclosure is generally concerned with optical transceivers. In one example, an optical transceiver implements electronic dispersion compensation in the receive path, as well as optical preemphasis on the transmitted signal in order to improve aspects of optical performance on multimode fiber links, relative to systems that do not implement transmitter preemphasis. Among other things, such optical transceivers can be used to achieve longer link lengths over a given fiber and/or to improve the percentage of fibers that can be used with a given performance electronic dispersion implementation.
Abstract:
The optoelectronic transceiver includes a housing, an optical transmitter, an optical receiver, a memory, and an interface. The optical transmitter, receiver, memory, and interface are each disposed at least partially within the housing. The memory is configured for storing information relating to operation of the transceiver. The interface is configured to allow a host to read from host specified locations within the memory. The optoelectronic transceiver also includes a first row of at least five substantially parallel and elongate pins extending from the housing, and a second row of at least five substantially parallel and elongate pins extending from the housing. The second row is substantially parallel to the first row. The optoelectronic transceiver also includes two electrical contacts each aligned with at least one of the first and second rows. The two electrical contacts are configured to be electrically coupled to the interface.
Abstract:
An integrated circuit for use at a reduced Vdd voltage. An integrated circuit is designed and implemented such that it is usable at a voltage less than an industry standard Vdd voltage. The integrated circuit may include a voltage filter that may either be implemented on the integrated circuit or external to the integrated circuit. The voltage filter receives an industry standard IC voltage and produces a filtered voltage that is that some value below the industry standard IC voltage. The voltage filter also removes noise from the industry standard IC voltage. The integrated circuit includes signal processing circuitry that is designed and implemented to improve signal quality and to operate at the filtered voltage.
