Abstract: A second harmonic generator may include a combiner to combine a fundamental optical beam with a residual fundamental optical beam. The second harmonic generator may include a second harmonic crystal, coupled to the combiner, to generate a second harmonic optical beam from the fundamental optical beam and the residual fundamental optical beam. Upon generation of the second harmonic optical beam, the residual fundamental optical beam may exit the second harmonic crystal.

Abstract: In some implementations, a laser diode array may comprise a cavity that includes a rear facet and a front facet and multiple emitters that are transversely single mode and disposed within the cavity. In some implementations, the multiple emitters each include a seeding section having a constant emitter width that is single mode at the rear facet and a flared section having a monotonically expanding emitter width that increases adiabatically over a majority of a length of the cavity such that outputs from the multiple emitters are single mode at the front facet. In some implementations, the emitter width is less than twenty micrometers at the front facet.

Abstract: In some implementations, an optical device (e.g., a monolithic master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) diode) may include a first facet, one or more gratings, an amplifier structure terminated with a second facet, and an oscillator array that includes multiple singlemode oscillators coupled to the first facet and to the one or more gratings. In some implementations, the multiple singlemode oscillators may be configured to generate multiple seed beams and to transmit the multiple seed beams into the amplifier structure through the one or more gratings.

Abstract: In some implementations, an optical fiber may include a core and a cladding surrounding the core. The core and the cladding may provide light guidance along the optical fiber in a light propagation direction. The core may have a taper in the light propagation direction in a section of the optical fiber. A diameter of the core may decrease independently of a diameter of the cladding in the section of the optical fiber.

Abstract: An optical fiber device may include a unitary core including a primary section and a secondary section, wherein at least a portion of the secondary section is offset from a center of the unitary core, wherein the unitary core twists about an axis of the optical fiber device along a length of the optical fiber device, and wherein a refractive index of the primary section is greater than a refractive index of the secondary section; and a cladding surrounding the unitary core.

Abstract: In some implementations, a waveguide may comprise an inner core to receive a first beam and an outer core surrounding the inner core to receive a second beam that is displaced from the first beam by an offset. The outer core may comprise a beam guiding region that rotationally expands over a length of the waveguide into an annulus that concentrically surrounds the inner core or a partial annulus that partially surrounds the inner core. For example, the beam guiding region may be defined by one or more low refractive index features that have a varied orientation and/or a varied shape over the length of the waveguide such that the second beam enters the waveguide as an offset beam and exits from the waveguide as a ring-shaped beam or a partial ring-shaped beam.

Abstract: An optical fiber may include a first core, a second core, and a cladding surrounding the first core and the second core. The second core may be at an off-center location with respect to a center of the optical fiber, or the second core may include an azimuthally nonuniform section at the off-center location. The second core may twist about an axis of the optical fiber along a length of the optical fiber, and the second core being twisted about the axis may cause an optical beam, launched into the second core at a first end of the optical fiber, to be at least partially converted to a rotary optical beam at a second end of the optical fiber.

Abstract: A device may splice, at a target splice point, a first end of a twisted fiber having a non-concentric core to an input end of a target fiber having a concentric core to form a spliced fiber wherein the concentric core of the target fiber and the non-concentric core of the twisted fiber have a particular offset at the target splice point. The device may taper at least a portion of the twisted fiber to form a tapered region of the spliced fiber and such that the particular offset at the target splice point corresponds to a pre-configured core offset wherein the target splice point is within the tapered region of the spliced fiber.

Abstract: A device may determine at least one metric related to a plurality of laser pulses associated with a Q-switched laser. The device may determine a statistical metric for the at least one metric related to the plurality of laser pulses. The device may determine that the statistical metric satisfies a threshold level of deviation of the at least one metric related to the plurality of laser pulses from a baseline value for the at least one metric. The device may indicate laser degradation of the Q-switched laser based on determining that the statistical metric satisfies the threshold.
