    Abstract: An optical system includes a beam steering device configured with a beam-steering dependency dependent on a first polarization, and an optical arrangement comprising an input, a first optical path, and a second optical path, and an output. The first optical path and the second optical path extend from the input and intersect at a same point-of-incidence on the beam steering device. The optical arrangement is configured to split an input beam into two orthogonally polarized beams, direct a first polarized beam along the first optical path, and direct a second polarized beam along the second optical path. The optical arrangement is configured to provide the first polarized beam and the second polarized beam to the beam steering device as spatially-overlapped beams with a same polarization. The beam steering device is configured to steer the first polarized beam and the second polarized beam toward the output in a common output direction.

    Abstract: An optical switch may include a first array of optical ports, a first array of beam-forming elements, and a first array of beam steering elements. The optical switch may further include a first set of optical elements to cause an area of a projected beam-array field at a plane of the first array of beam-forming elements to be larger than an area of the first array of beam-forming elements. The first set of optical elements may be in a region of optical coupling between the first array of beam-forming elements and the first array of beam steering elements. The optical switch may include a second array of beam steering elements, a second array of beam-forming elements, and a second array of optical ports.
