Abstract:
Systems, methods, and software are disclosed herein for designing applications. In an implementation, a method comprises examining a spreadsheet to identify a plurality of spreadsheet components of the spreadsheet with which to generate a plurality of application components for potential inclusion in a software application under design. The method also comprises receiving user input comprising a plurality of design instructions to include in the software application at least some of the plurality of application components and generating at least an instance of the software application comprising the plurality of application components.
Abstract:
Displaying a visualization of ranked elements over a selected dimension. The method includes determining a user selection of a ranking function for a plurality of elements. The ranking function defines a core value to be ranked. The method further includes determining a dimension over which the core value of the ranking function output can change. The method further includes animating a relevant number of the elements over time. A time value of the animation correspond to values of the dimension. Animating includes displaying elements in prominence corresponding to the result of the output of the ranking function.
Abstract:
Spreadsheet functions are provided that enable interactivity with web services and manipulation of data retrieved from a web service call. One function takes a URL as an argument and performs an HTTP GET request asynchronously to return the response into the spreadsheet application. Another function URL encodes its argument. The URL encoded argument can then be used as part of the URL of the web service call. Yet another function is a filtering function that takes XML, JSON, HTML, and other forms of data that may be returned via a web service call to obtain specific data such as via an XPath standard when XML is used. These functions may be used together or separately.

Abstract:
The description relates to an interactive digital display. One example includes a display device configured to receive user input and recognize commands relative to data visualizations. The system also includes a graphical user interface configured to be presented on the display device that allows users to interact with the data visualizations via the user commands.
Abstract:
Concepts and technologies are described herein for cross-platform application programming interfaces for applications. In accordance with the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, the cross-platform APIs support interoperability and extensibility with various application programs using a single language and/or set of APIs. Extensions authored for a particular application program may be used with other application programs that expose the same or a similar set of APIs, even if other object models or APIs associated with the application programs differ from one another. Thus, the APIs support cross-platform, cross-device, and cross-version compatibility of extensions.
Abstract:
Third party data embedding may be provided. Data associated with a third party provider may be saved in a native application save file. If a save file opened by the application is determined to comprise third party data, the application may determine whether an appropriate data provider is available. The application may connect to the data provider and provide on-demand, asynchronous access to the third party data upon request from a user.
