Abstract: A system includes at least one station and a transmitter. The transmitter may be operable to transmit a transmission to the at least one station. The transmission may be associated with a bandwidth. The transmitter may adaptively select a modulation and coding scheme for the transmission. The modulation and coding scheme may allocate distributed resource units to the transmission. The distributed resource units are assigned to the at least one station and are distributed throughout the transmission.

Abstract: An access point may include a processing device. The processing device may determine, at a medium access control (MAC) layer, a first modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for a first set of orthogonal frequency duplex multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. The processing device may determine, at the MAC layer, a second MCS for a second set of OFDM symbols. The processing device may generate, at the MAC layer, one or more aggregate MAC protocol data units (A-MPDUs) including the first MCS and the second MCS. The processing device may send, from the MAC layer to a physical layer (PHY), the one or more A-MPDUs to generate a PHY service data unit (PSDU) including the first MCS and the second MCS.

Abstract: A wireless access point includes a first sublayer and a second sublayer. The first sublayer may be operable to perform first operations in accordance with a first standard. The first standard may be associated with the wireless access point. The second sublayer may be communicatively coupled to the first sublayer and may include a protocol stack and an adaptive layer. The protocol stack may be operable to perform second operations in accordance with a second standard and may be operable to interface with a transmission medium to facilitate data transmissions between the wireless access point and a device. The adaptive layer may facilitate communications between the protocol stack and the first sublayer.
