Abstract: A multi-carrier transmitter apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes an outer encoder, a shell mapper and an inner encoder. The outer encoder is configured to receive a signal, perform error correction using an outer code on the received signal and generate an outer encoder signal. The shell mapper is configured to perform constellation shaping on a subset of bits from the outer encoder signal and generate one or more constellation shaping bits. The inner encoder is configured to perform inner error correction/encoding using an inner code on a second subset of bits from the outer encoder signal and generate an inner correction signal.

Abstract: A residential gateway connecting an access network to an in-home network includes an access network transceiver configured for a first communication with an access network component via a wireline and an in-home network transceiver configured for a second communication with an in-home network component via the same wireline or at least one further wireline. The residential gateway further includes synchronization circuitry configured to synchronize a timing between the first and the second communication and interference mitigation circuitry configured to mitigate interference between the first and the second communication based on the synchronized timing.

Abstract: According to an aspect of an embodiment, an optical line terminal (OLT) configured for downstream transmission in a passive optical network (PON) may comprise a processing device and a transceiver. The processing device may be configured to: generate a first downstream signal for transmission on a first channel at a first signal level, and generate a second downstream signal for transmission on a second channel at a second signal level. The first signal level may be greater than the second signal level. The PMD transmitter may be configured to transmit a combined downstream signal comprising the first downstream signal and the second downstream signal. The first transmit power of the first downstream signal may be selected based on a comparison to a second transmit power of the second downstream signal to facilitate reception of the first downstream signal from the combined downstream signal at an optical network unit (ONU).
