    Abstract: A power management system for a headset includes a step-up converter and a step-down converter. The step-up converter increases the voltage and decreases the current supplied by the power supply. The power is transmitted via transmission lines at the increased voltage. The step-down converter decreases the voltage to a suitable level for various components of a power rail assembly. The power lost in the transmission lines is proportional to the square of the current. The power saved by transmission at a lower current in the transmission lines is greater than the power lost by the step-up converter and the step-down converter.

    Abstract: The disclosed devices may include a driver circuit including a voltage boost circuit, a pulse modulation controller, and optionally a headroom processor. The voltage boost circuit may be configured to receive a device input voltage (such as a battery voltage) and generate a backlight drive voltage. The pulse modulation controller may be configured to provide a pulse modulation signal to the voltage boost circuit, and may include a digital circuit or an analog circuit. Example devices may include a backlight unit receiving the backlight voltage. The optional headroom processor may provide a headroom signal to the pulse modulation controller based on a headroom voltage determined from the backlight unit. Devices may further include a backlight unit including an arrangement of light-emissive elements, and may include display devices such as head-mounted devices. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A power supply unit adapts based on an image to be displayed by a display panel. The power supply unit includes a controller circuit for generating a control signal, and a converter circuit for generating an output supply voltage based on the control signal. The controller circuit includes a first look-up table (LUT) storing a set of lower limit values, and a second LUT storing a set of upper limit values. Moreover, the controller circuit includes a microcontroller for receiving an on-pixel-ratio (OPR) value and identifying an entry in the first LUT and the second LUT from the received OPR value. The controller circuit further includes an output circuit for generating the control signal between a first voltage corresponding to a lower limit stored in the identified entry in the first LUT and a second voltage corresponding to an upper limit stored in the identified entry in the second LUT.
