The invention relates to a process to prepare complex oligomeric structures obtained from vegetable oils. The process allows to use a mixture of triglycerides containing dicarboxylic acids produced by the oxidative cleavage of vegetable oils as a starting material, these oils being subjected to a step of heating (condensation) followed by a step of esterification with alcohols at temperatures up to 250° C.

The invention relates to a process for the production of 1,4-butanediol comprising the preparation of a fermentation broth comprising 1,4-butanediol from renewable sources and water, separation of a liquid fraction comprising said 1,4-butanediol and water from one or more solid fractions, said liquid fraction comprising 2-pyrrolidone in an amount higher than 80 ppm, one or more passages of the resulting liquid fraction through a bed comprising one or more cation-exchange resins thereby providing an output pH of said liquid fraction from 4 to 2, one or more passages of the resulting liquid fraction through a bed comprising one or more anion-exchange resins thereby providing an output pH of said liquid fraction from 8 to 11, and the distillation of the liquid fraction thereby provided so as to obtain a composition having a concentration of said 1,4-butanediol higher than 99.0% by weight and comprising 2-pyrrolidone in an amount lower than 6 ppm. The resulting composition should exhibit an APHA color value after ageing of less than 30.

This invention relates to biodegradable compositions containing at least a polyester containing 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid and at least a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyhydroxyalkanoates and/or aliphatic and/or aliphatic-aromatic diacid diol polyesters, which is particularly suitable for use in the manufacture of mass-produced articles characterised by excellent mechanical properties, associated with a high barrier property against oxygen and carbon dioxide.

The present invention relates to a film comprising at least one biodegradable layer (i) having an elastic modulus of more than 450 MPa, consisting of a mixture of polyhydroxyalkanoate constituting the continuous phase and aliphatic and/or aliphatic-aromatic polyester constituting the discontinuous phase, and at least one coating layer (ii) preferably capable of having barrier effects against gases and liquids. The surface of said layer (i) will have a root mean square roughness Sq of more than 10 nm and less than 45 nm, measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The film is particularly suitable for use in food packaging.
