Abstract: A composition that efficiently produces cellulose includes cell extracts derived from a tunicate of ascidian class or yeast expressing tunicate cellulose synthase, at least one divalent cation of calcium ion and magnesium ion, cellobiose and UDP-glucose. The composition has a pH in the range of 6.6-7.2.
