Abstract: A medical imaging device comprising: an optical imaging module which generates an image of a region of a body part by acquiring image samples at respective sample locations in the region and mapping the samples to corresponding image pixels; a control module which controls the optical imaging module to acquire a first sequence of samples whose corresponding pixel locations follow a path which is spanned by pixels corresponding to the first sequence of samples and extends over a greater portion of the image than an arrangement in an array of a sequence of pixels corresponding to a second sequence of samples that the optical imaging module is operable to acquire, wherein a sum of distances between adjacent pixels in the sequence of pixels is equal to a length of the path; and a registration module which registers the image against a reference image.

Abstract: An optical system comprising: an optical element having an optical property responsive to an applied signal, a variation of the optical property with the signal exhibiting hysteresis in a first range of values and no hysteresis in a second range of values of the signal; a memory storing data representing a hysteresis curve which indicates the variation of the optical property with increasing and decreasing values of the signal; and a controller which continuously controls the optical property by: generating, based on the stored data, a cyclic signal having a discontinuity in each cycle of the cyclic signal, and setting the discontinuity size in each cycle based on the stored data such that a part of the variation of the optical property with the cyclic signal coincides with a part of the variation represented by the stored data; and applying the cyclic signal to the optical element.

Abstract: A method of controlling an ophthalmic device operable to image an imaging region of a retina and concurrently illuminate an illumination region of the retina, the method including acquiring a reference retinal image by imaging a reference imaging area of the retina; designating a target in the reference retinal image; acquiring a current retinal image of an initial imaging region within the reference imaging area; moving the imaging region from the initial imaging region to a destination imaging region using the target and the reference retinal image, and acquiring a retinal image of the destination imaging region; illuminating the illumination region while the imaging region is the destination imaging region; acquiring one or more retinal images while the illumination module is being illuminated; and comparing a marker retinal image based on the one or more retinal image(s) with a comparison image based on the reference retinal image.

Abstract: An ophthalmic device comprising a light source to emit fixation target light, and a reflecting face to reflect scanning light emitted by an emission section and scan the scanning light in a specific direction by changing orientation, the emission section being a scanning light source different to the light source. A concave mirror face is disposed so scanning light reflected by the reflecting face is incident on a subject's eye ocular fundus when the eye is at the concave mirror's focal point, and is arranged such that, when the eye is at the concave mirror's focal point, and when the light source emits fixation target light, that light and scanning light are simultaneously incident on the ocular fundus via different optical paths propagating via the concave mirror face and focal point, the target fixation light following a predetermined optical path for fixing the subject's eye gaze.
