Abstract:
The invention relates to a system which allows the transfer of data between first and second remote locations. In one embodiment the transfer is between apparatus in the form of telephone apparatus at each location. In a second embodiment the transfer of data is performed via apparatus in the form of two broadcast data receivers allocating the data as part of an e-mail transmission, but in both cases the data is transferred between a device and apparatus at the first location and subsequently from the apparatus to apparatus at the second location via a telecommunications link, where the data is typically transferred from the apparatus at the second location to a further device.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the provision of a device which allows access to a particular site on, for example, the internet. The identity of the particular site to be accessed is determined with reference to an information carrier such as a card which is issued by an organization. The card carries information which includes the site address or other site identification means and the information is obtained by the device which then initiates and controls the access to the particular site. This ensures that an organization's customer can make quick and easy access to the organizations web site.
Abstract:
A Broadcast data receiver is provided which is capable of receiving data relating to a number of television channels. The receiver is also able to generate an electronic programme guide (EPG) providing information relating to the television channels, programmes and/or other functions which are available for selection by a user of the apparatus. The user typically makes the selection using a remote control handset. The EPG is generated using a first source in the form of embedded code provided in the receiving apparatus and other functions of the apparatus/television set are generated using a second source in the form of software language provided in the receiving apparatus. The utilisation of the first and/or second source by the receiving apparatus is controlled in response to a user selection using the control means.
