Abstract:
A computing architecture, system and method are disclosed for use in a medical device for providing decision support to a caregiver. The computing architecture includes a memory, a processor in communication with the memory, and an instance of a primary rules-based service configured to provide instruction events, the instance providing a primary processing thread of instruction events for coaching treatment of a patient. A software manager module includes an artificial intelligence architecture. The artificial intelligence architecture is configured to provide an instance of a conditional rules-based service for providing instruction events. The instance provided by the artificial intelligence architecture provides a processing thread of instruction events for coaching treatment of a patient that is independent of the primary processing thread and is configured to trigger an action on the occurrence of a pre-defined set of input conditions.
Abstract:
In embodiments, an emergency external defibrillator system is configured for use by a local rescuer in cooperation with a remote rescuer to assist a patient. The external defibrillator system includes a sensor to generate a patient value that represents a physiological parameter of the patient. The system also includes a communication module to transmit the patient value to another device of a remote rescuer, and to receive in response an incoming message that contains an encoded sound. For the local rescuer, the system also includes a screen to display the patient value, and a speaker to play the sound concurrently with the screen displaying the patient value. An advantage is that the local rescuer can receive guidance from the remote rescuer.

The system also includes a communication module to transmit the patient value to another device of a remote rescuer, and to receive in response an incoming message that contains an encoded discharge instruction. The system also includes a processor that can decode the discharge instruction, and cause the system to defibrillate or pace the patient. An advantage is that therapy can be initiated remotely from the remote rescuer, who may be better trained, more confident, and less under the stress of the moment than the local rescuer.

Abstract:
A decision support definitions library stores one or more decision support definitions for providing appropriate treatment paths. A device management library stores device and configuration setting information on one or more devices associated with an organization, the configuration setting including information on smart agents residing on the one or more devices. A decision support definition editor is configured to modify a selected one or more decision support definitions and one or more device and configuration settings. A decision support definition generator is configured to create an installation configuration file including an entry for each of a selected one or more decision support definitions, wherein each entry comprises: (i) information that identifies the respective decision support definition, (ii) configuration information, and (iii) information that identifies an installation program. A deployment manager is configured to distribute the installation configuration file and the smart agent with selected decision support definitions.
