Abstract: A process for reducing the hydrogen sulphide content in a composition containing or consisting of hydrogen sulphide and non-gaseous elemental sulphur, comprising contacting the composition with a scavenger, wherein the scavenger is chosen from the group consisting of zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, zinc hydroxy carbonate or a combination of two or more of these.
