    Abstract: One or more embodiments of the present invention are directed to a liquid crystal display including: a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other; a first color pixel area, a second color pixel area, a third color pixel area, and a white pixel area on any one of the first substrate and the second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. A first color filter is disposed in each of the first color pixel area and the white pixel area, and each of the first, second, third, and white pixel areas includes a plurality of domains, each two adjacent domains having a boundary between them, and the first color filter is disposed at at least one of the boundaries between the domains in the white pixel area.

    Abstract: A data driver for a display includes: a polarity signal generator outputting polarity control signals for setting polarity patterns of data voltages such that pixels have the same polarity inversion pattern for every 2h number of pixels (where h is a natural number) in each pixel row defined by pixels that are arranged on the same row and have the same polarity inversion pattern for every 2k number of pixel rows (where k is a natural number) in a column direction; and a data voltage generator determining polarities of the data voltages in response to the polarity control signal to provide the determined polarities of the data voltages to the pixels.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display and a method for driving the same. The liquid crystal display includes: gate lines arranged in a row direction; data lines arranged in a column direction; and subpixels arranged in basic units of eight subpixels. Each subpixel is each connected to one of the gate lines and one of the data lines, and the subpixels are continuously arranged along a row and are arranged in a matrix. In the basic units, polarities between adjacent subpixels from a first subpixel to a fourth subpixel along the row are opposite to each other, polarities between adjacent subpixels from a fifth subpixel to an eighth subpixel along the row are opposite to each other, and polarities of the fourth subpixel and the fifth subpixel are the same.

    Abstract: Provided is an image processing method of processing first red, green, and blue (RGB) data with a display device including a pixel configured with red, green, blue, and white sub-pixels and providing the processed data. The method includes receiving the first RGB data, rendering the first RGB data to generate second RGB data and white (W) data, converting the first RGB data into hue, saturation, and value (HSV) data, obtaining RGB compensation data by using the HSV data on the basis of a lookup table, compensating for the second RGB data by using the RGB compensation data, and outputting the compensated second RGB data and the W data.

    Abstract: A display apparatus includes gate lines extending in a first direction, data lines crossing the first direction and having polarities of data voltages consecutively repeated every four data lines, and pixels which each comprise three sub-pixels. One of the three sub-pixels has a width in the first direction different from a width in the first direction of another sub-pixel of the three sub-pixels. Each of the three sub-pixels is connected to a corresponding gate line and a corresponding data line. The polarities of the data voltages applied to a first data line and a third data line are opposite and the polarities of the data voltages applied to a second data line and a fourth data line are opposite. The pixels arranged between two adjacent data lines among the plurality of data lines are alternately connected to the two adjacent data lines.
