Abstract: The invention of the application is the invention regarding a semiconductor device and a method for driving the semiconductor device. The semiconductor device includes first and second transistors, first to fifth switches, first to third capacitors, and a display element. The first transistor (M2) comprises a back gate, a gate of the first transistor is electrically connected to the first switch (M1), the second switch (M3) and the first capacitor (C1) are positioned between the gate of the first transistor and a source of the first transistor, the back gate of the first transistor is electrically connected to the third switch (M4), the second capacitor (C2) is positioned between the back gate of the first transistor and the source of the first transistor, the source of the first transistor is electrically connected to the fourth switch (M6) and a drain of the second transistor (M5), a gate of the second transistor is electrically connected to the fifth switch (M7), the third capacitor (C3) is positioned between the gate of the second transistor and a source of the second transistor, and the source of the second transistor is electrically connected to the display element (61).

Abstract: A display apparatus having a wide range of threshold voltage compensation function is provided. In the display apparatus, a p-channel transistor is used as a driving transistor of the light-emitting device. Discharging is performed through a source-drain path while constant voltage is supplied to a gate so that Vth is extracted between the gate and the source. In addition, when a drain potential is set to the sum of forward voltage and a cathode potential of the light-emitting device or a potential sufficiently lower than the sum, it is possible to continue the discharging even when Vth is positive voltage. That is, compensation can be performed even in the case where Vth variation occurs from positive voltage to negative voltage.

Abstract: A display apparatus having an excellent boosting function is provided. The display apparatus is provided with a pixel having a function of adding data (a boosting function). A capacitor for boosting voltage is provided in the pixel, and data is added by capacitive coupling to be supplied to a display device. The capacitor for boosting voltage and a capacitor for retaining data are placed on top of each other, whereby the capacitance value of the capacitor for boosting voltage can be increased. Thus, the pixel can have an excellent boosting function, without significantly losing the aperture ratio or definition.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention relates to a common semiconductor apparatus for driving two different circuits. Abstract: A novel semiconductor device is provided. The semiconductor device is a single-polarity semiconductor device including a vertical-channel transistor. In the vertical-channel transistor, the higher parasitic capacitance value of the gate-source parasitic capacitance and the gate-drain parasitic capacitance is used as a bootstrap capacitor, which decreases the occupied area of the semiconductor device. The use of an oxide semiconductor for a semiconductor layer of the vertical-channel transistor increases the breakdown voltage between the source and the drain, which can shorten the channel length. In addition, stable operation can be performed even in a high-temperature environment.
