Abstract: Lube oils of improved viscosity index are prepared by hydrocracking a heavy oil charge stock, separating the lube oil portion of the product into a light cut and a heavy cut, extracting aromatics from the heavy cut, combining the extracted aromatics with the light cut and hydrogenating the mixture. The products may be used separately or the hydrogenated mixture may be combined with the extracted heavy cut.
