Abstract: An intraocular pressure sensing element along with implant microelectronic circuitry to be configured to be implanted into an eye of a user. The microelectronic circuitry is conductively coupled to the intraocular pressure sensing element to produce measured pressure data. A microscopic light emitting diode, LED, that is also implanted into the eye, is driven with the measured pressure data thereby optically transmitting the measured pressure data for communication with outside of the eye. A photovoltaic element that is also implanted into the eye supplies energy to operate the implant microelectronic circuitry and the microscopic LED. Other aspects are also described and claimed.

Abstract: A vitrectomy device includes a body extending along an axis from a proximal end to a distal end and having a central passage. A needle is provided for insertion into the vitreous humor of an eye and extends within the central passage and out of the distal end of the body. An assembly including a chamber under vacuum and a piercing member extend away from the chamber. The chamber is movable in a direction transverse to the centerline from a first position in which the chamber is not fluidly connected to the needle to a second position in which the piercing member fluidly connects the chamber to the needle for drawing a vitreous sample into the chamber under vacuum pressure.

Abstract: A processor signals a display to show a target. Optics is positioned in an optical path taken by the target, as shown by the display, from the display to the eye of a user. The optics is configured to change accommodation by the eye and has adjustable focal length that enables the user to see the target with changing acuity. The processor then obtains an indication that the eye of the user is focused on the target. In response, the processor signals an alignment mechanism to align a sensor in the device to the eye of the user. After signaling the alignment mechanism to align the sensor to the eye of the user, the processor obtains sensor data, produced by the sensor, which measures a property of the eye. Other aspects are also described and claimed.
