Abstract: A method for enhancing the sensing capabilities of an autonomous vehicle. The method includes extending an extension assembly mounted to the autonomous vehicle to position one or more sensors above the autonomous vehicle and receiving, from the one or more sensors, at least one sensor signal representing one or more vehicle environment conditions surrounding the autonomous vehicle. The method also includes generating a vehicle state for the autonomous vehicle based at least on a location of the autonomous vehicle, the vehicle state comprising the one or more vehicle environment conditions.

Abstract: A system for altering form factor of an autonomous vehicle is provided. The system includes a movable member for mounting on the autonomous vehicle. The movable member is configured to move between a closed position and an extended position. The system further includes an actuator coupled to the movable member and configured to move the movable member between the closed position and the extended position. The system further includes a processing system in communication with the actuator. The processing system is configured to receive, from at least one sensor of the autonomous vehicle, at least one sensor signal, determine to move the movable member from the closed position to the extended position based on the at least one sensor signal, and control the actuator to move the movable member from the closed position to the extended position based on the determination.

Abstract: An autonomous vehicle is provided. The autonomous vehicle includes one or more sensors and an autonomy computing system. The autonomy computing system includes at least one processor in communication with at least one memory device. The at least one processor is programmed to receive sensor data from the one or more sensors, and receive weather-related data from a mission control computing system. The weather-related data include fleet data from autonomous vehicles in a fleet. The fleet includes the autonomous vehicle. The at least one processor is further programmed to determine an icy condition is present based on the sensor data and the fleet data, and determine de-icing strategies based on the icy condition.
