Abstract:
An apparatus that corrects a weight imbalance around an axis of a spindle motor that rotates a disc in a disc drive includes an impact applicator that applies an impact to a housing that houses the spindle motor and the disc, a plate that supports the housing and impact applicator, a spring member that supports the plate, and enables the plate and the housing to vibrate together when the spindle motor rotates, and a detector that detects a vibration of the housing when the spindle motor rotates.
Abstract:
A compact and simple lapping apparatus in which, even if projections and depressions are formed in the circumferential direction on the top surface of a lapping plate, a workpiece and a bar are hard to damage and the polished surface of the workpiece is kept in good condition. This apparatus is provided with at least one lapping jig in which a workpiece is placed on the rotating top surface of the lapping plate. Further, a lapping head adapted to be able to rotate only in a direction on the lapping plate is attached to this lapping jig. This lapping head is equipped with a workpiece and at least two dummy work materials (or stock) so that these dummy works compose (as-polished) surfaces, which should be polished, together with the workpiece. Moreover, a device for detecting the remaining part of the workpiece to be lapped is provided on the workpiece. Furthermore, this lapping apparatus is configured so that a detection signal, which represents the detected remaining part of the workpiece and is outputted from the rotating lapping head, is sent to and a correction signal is sent from a control unit to the lapping correction device through a slip ring. A workpiece is polished while rotated on the lapping plate. Thus, the polished surface of the workpiece is kept in good condition.
Abstract:
A method for incorporating a disk medium into a magnetic disk drive, in which the rotation center of the disk medium when a servo track information is written onto the disk medium (STW) coincides with the rotation center thereof when the disk medium is incorporated into the disk apparatus. A reference marker is provided as a positioning reference on a part of the disk medium. The disk medium is incorporated into a STW apparatus so that STW is performed on the disk medium. The disk medium is also incorporated into the magnetic disk drive in such a manner that a distance from an axis of rotation center of the disk medium to the reference marker is the same as when the STW was performed onto the disk medium.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, a carriage assembly includes a carriage block main body, a carriage arm, a head suspension, a flexible printed circuit board, and a viscoelastic adhesive. The carriage block main body is rotatably supported by a shaft. The carriage arm extends from the carriage block main body. The head suspension is attached to an end of the carriage arm, and supports a head slider at an end. The flexible printed circuit board is partially fixed to the head suspension, extends from the head suspension toward the carriage block main body, and is affixed to a surface of the carriage arm. The viscoelastic adhesive is sandwiched between the carriage arm and the flexible printed circuit board.

Abstract:
A balance correction apparatus is configured to correct weight imbalance around an axis of a spindle motor, and includes a piezoelectric actuator configured to apply an impact to a housing, a controller configured to generate as a rectangular wave a force profile that represents an acceleration applied to the housing by the piezoelectric actuator, and a waveform generator configured to generate a voltage waveform configured to drive the piezoelectric actuator, by integrating the force profile twice. The rectangular wave has a first acceleration after a leading edge and a second acceleration after a trailing edge. The first acceleration enables the disc to move relative to the spindle motor and the housing. The second acceleration enables the disc to move together with the spindle motor and the housing.
Abstract:
A clamp device that clamps a disc onto a spindle motor that rotates the disc includes a clamp ring stacked on the disc and clamps the disc onto the spindle motor, a screw that fixes the clamp ring onto the spindle motor, and an axial force adjuster that nonlinearly changes a relationship between a tightening force of the screw and an axial force actually applied to the disc, and includes an elastic part that has a spring constant smaller than that of the clamp ring.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, a recording medium drive includes a stator, a rotor, recording disks, an annular spacer, and an annular thin plate. The rotor is rotatably supported by the stator. The recording disks are mounted on the rotor. The annular spacer is mounted on the rotor between the recording disks. The annular thin plate is mounted on the rotor between one of the recording disks and the annular spacer. The thin plate includes a first thin plate, a second thin plate, and a viscoelastic body. The first and second thin plates are formed of a hard resin plate or a metal plate. The first thin plate is adjacent to either the one of the recording disks or the annular spacer, and the second thin plate is adjacent to the other. The viscoelastic body is interposed between the first thin plate and the second thin plate.
Abstract:
