Abstract:
MIXTURES OF SULFATE SALTS SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF AL2(SO4)3-CUSO4; CUSO4-FE2(SO4)3; AND FE2(SO4)3-AL2(SO4)3 ARE DECOMPOSED TO THE CORRESPONDING OXIDES AND MADE INTO PARTICULATE FORM FOR USE AS AN ABSORBENT IN SULFUR OXIDE ABSORPTION FROM GASES. THE ABSORBENTS CAN BE USED UNSUPPORTED OR ON A SUITABLE SUPPORT MATERIAL. IN EITHER CASE, THE ABSORBENTS ARE CAPABLE OF REGENERATION.
Abstract:
SULFUR OXIDES ARE REMOVED FROM GASES BY CONTACTING THE SAME AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES WITH A DRY ABSORBENT SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF RED MUD, RETORTED OIL SHALE, RETORTED OIL SHALE TREATED WITH SODIUM HYDROXIDE AND MIXTURES OF RETORTED OIL SHALE AND RED MUD TREATED WITH SODIUM HYDROXIDE. THESE ADSORBENTS MAY BE USED ON A ONCE-THROUGH BASIS OR THEY MAY BE REGENERATED. CATALYTIC OXIDATION OF THE GASES, THOUGH NOT NECESSARY, MAY PRECEDE CONTACT WITH THE ABSORBENTS.
