Abstract: A test device tests conditions associated with a fronthaul in an Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN). The test device can field test an O-RAN radio unit (O-RU) installed at a cell site by emulating an O-RAN distributed unit (O-DU) in the O-RAN connected to the O-RU via the fronthaul of the O-RAN. The testing includes testing connectivity of the O-RU to the fronthaul. The testing includes executing managing plane (M-plane) and synchronization plane (S-plane) messaging to test management session establishment, device setting testing, and master clock synchronization testing. Additionally, optical insertion loss in the fronthaul and frequency and power of signals transmitted from the O-RU can be tested.

Abstract: A test device determines time error in a fronthaul network of a radio access network. A first Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver receives GNSS signals from a GNSS satellite through a reference GNSS signal distribution system (GSDS) having a known signal propagation delay. The first GNSS receiver calculates and outputs a corresponding reference One Pulse Per Second (1PPS) signal. A second GNSS receiver receives the GNSS signals through a device under test including a GSDS having an unknown signal propagation delay. The second GNSS receiver calculates and outputs a corresponding DUT 1PPS signal. The test device determines the unknown signal propagation delay of the DUT by comparing the reference 1PPS signal to the DUT 1PPS signal.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for implementing a real-time Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) fronthaul analyzer and graphical user interface (FHA/GUI) are provided. In one example, a method describes receiving an O-RAN fronthaul (OFH) packet traffic flow; parsing packet headers of the OFH packet traffic flow; identifying and tracking active flows in the OFH packet traffic flow using the parsing; and presenting a visual representation of the active flows using the tracking of active flows. In some examples, the real-time O-RAN FHA/GUI may be used for testing an OFH link for compliance with the O-RAN standards.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for implementing a real-time Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) fronthaul analyzer are provided. In one example, a hardware accelerator may receive and timestamp packets in an O-RAN fronthaul packet traffic flow, parse and route the time-stamped packets on different circuit paths to one or more hardware packet analyzers, where the one or more hardware packet analyzers generate analytical timing measurements in real-time using the timestamps on the plural packets. In some examples, the hardware accelerator may include a flow tracker to track packet flows and a parser to parse metadata from packet headers and route individual packets onto appropriate circuit paths. In some examples, the real-time O-RAN fronthaul analyzer may be used for testing an O-RAN fronthaul link for compliance with O-RAN standards.

Abstract: According to examples, an O-RAN FHA may include a packet analyzer including hardware, an impairment generator, and a Parser to receive packet traffic flows outputted by an O-DU) and/or an O-RU. The Parser may parse packets in the received packet traffic flows, determine which of the received packet traffic flows are to receive impairments, and set action bits for the packets in the packet traffic flows that are to receive impairments, in which the action bits denote information indicating types of impairments to be applied to certain ones of the packet traffic flows. The Parser may also output the packet traffic flows with the action bits set for the packets to the packet analyzer and the impairment generator, in which the impairment generator is to generate impairments on the packet traffic flows based on settings of the action bits for the packets in the packet traffic flows.
