Abstract:
Cultivated field water is desalinated by a series of independent units that float on the water surface, taking up the saline water with a wick, evaporating the water from the wick in desalinating relation by concentrating incident solar radiation with a combination of a lenses and cooperating mirrors onto the upper end portion of the wick while the wick lower end portion is immersed in the field water, capturing the desalinated vapor resulting by condensing within the unit and returning the condensed, desalinated water to the field, and periodically renewing the wick by rinsing the salt from it at a cleaning station beyond the field.
Abstract:
Disk drive suspension pitch static attitude is adjusted without increasing the stiffness of the suspension by defining reliefs in the laterally projecting tab continuations of the suspension metal layer in the form of full or partial gaps, notches and/or apertures that reduce mass of the tabs while retaining their functionality for twisting or bending the suspension to bring the suspension slider-supporting tongue into parallel relation with a disk surface.

Abstract:
A disk drive suspension assembly of a flexure and a flexure support, the flexure having a tongue adapted to carry in gimbaling relation a slider in operating proximity to a disk, the flexure support and the flexure tongue defining cooperating structures which limit motion of the tongue relative to the disk to a predetermined range.
Abstract:
An apparatus for building a head stack assembly from an array of head stack assembly subassemblies comprising apertured actuator arms, mounting plates, and load beams in aperture registered relation for staking that applies uniform clamping force against possibly angled subassemblies by pivoting the engagement head to be flush with the subassemblies as presented, and increases support of the mounting plates against distortion during staking by reducing the difference in size of the spacer openings and the mounting plate openings and precisely aligning the smaller spacer openings from a locus spaced from and parallel to the subassembly array.
Abstract:
A disk drive suspension is provided comprising a load beam, a flexure partially overlying the load beam, the flexure having frame and tongue for supporting a slider, and a flexible conductor comprising a laminate of conductive leads and insulating plastic film, the flexure load beam-overlying portion and the load beam are fixed together and closely spaced to clamp the flexible conductor in place mechanically and freely of bonding to the load beam or flexure.
Abstract:
A load beam is mounted in a head stack assembly without staking operations by mounting a mounting plate having an annular boss and carrying the load beam to an actuator arm having a circular opening by having the plate annular boss larger than the circular opening and providing for interfittment by having a split ring structure including a slot of an original width on the annular boss or the circular opening that deflects during mounting and thereafter resiliently retains the plate and arm together by the tendency of the slot to return to its original width.
Abstract:
A disk head assembly attachment means and method for reducing the height of each support arm of a head stack assembly of a disk drive, thereby reducing the required disk-to-disk spacing. A first load beam assembly having a first boss is attached to a support arm of a head stack assembly. A second load beam assembly having a second boss is attached to the same support arm of the head stack assembly, with the second load beam assembly being positioned on the side of the support arm opposite the first load beam assembly. The first and second boss are designed to either nest one in the other, or set adjacent each other, such that each support arm of the head stack assembly need only accommodate the height of a single boss rather than the combined height of both bosses.
Abstract:
Apparatus for a disk drive having an actuator controlled suspension in operative association with a disk. The suspension mounting plane datum plane and suspension datum plane diverge at an acute angle. When the suspension is subjected to use conditions including seek operations and disk-induced turbulent wind flow conditions and induce sway forces and torsion forces that produce lateral off-track motions of the slider gap, the extension of the suspension datum plane substantially through the slider center of mass minimizes sway forces, and lateral off track motion of the slider gap is minimized. Error from torsion forces is minimized by having the dimple center of curvature coincide with a horizontal plane including the slider gap and having the dimple longitudinal axis extend through the slider center of mass, so that both sway and torsion force sources of track misregistration are addressed.
Abstract:
A novel flexure or interconnect for a disk drive suspension having a locally different thickness and/or width of insulative layer and a locally different thickness, width and/or relative spacing in its trace conductors to vary capacitance and circuit impedance values accordingly to locally desirable different and optimum values for the type of circuit and the suspension features.
