    Abstract: A method for a mobile computing device with a camera and a screen to measure a test strip in a test strip module includes, in a calibration phase before a sample is introduced to a reaction area on the test strip, detecting with the camera an ambient light effect when the test strip module is mounted on the face of the mobile computing device. In a measurement phase after the sample is introduced to the reaction area on the test strip, the method also includes illuminating the test strip with a light provided by a light source area on the screen, detecting with the camera one or more colors of the reaction area, correcting the detected one or more colors for the ambient light effect, correlating the corrected one or more colors to an analyte property, and displaying a value of the analyte property on the screen.

    Abstract: A method to process an image to determine a biological property associated with a test strip (221, 313, 323, 333, 413, 423, 513, 523) in a test strip adaptor (120, 220, 620, 720). The method includes receiving the image captured by a mobile computing device (100, 600, 700) and determining whether the received image includes sensitive information. In response to determining that the image includes sensitive information, the method further includes overwriting the image with a later received image before the image can be saved as a file. In response to determining that the image does not include sensitive information, the method further includes identifying a characteristic configuration associated with the test strip (221, 313, 323, 333, 413, 423, 513, 523) and determining the biological property based on the image and the characteristic configuration.

    Abstract: Example methods and systems for performing quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) are provided. One example system may include a first lighting subsystem and a second lighting subsystem. The first lighting subsystem includes a first light source configured to illuminate a qPCR testing solution including a sample, a fluorescence dye and a nanoparticle in a tube with a first light to increase a temperature of the qPCR testing solution. The second lighting subsystem includes a light detector configured to detect an amount of fluorescence emitted by the fluorescence dye in a first thermal cycle of the qPCR. The first lighting subsystem is configured to turn off the first light source for a period of time in any thermal cycle of the qPCR after the first thermal cycle based on one or more heat transmission parameters which are determined based on the amount of fluorescence.
