Abstract: A row unit for an agricultural implement, comprising a frame and a seed furrow-opener, wherein the seed furrow-opener comprises a pair of seed discs rotatably connected to the frame via at least one axle unit, wherein each of the seed discs has a respective geometric axis of rotation, and wherein the axes of rotation are non-parallel, so that a mutual spacing between the peripheries of the seed discs is non-constant. The axle unit is pivotable relative to the frame, so that the orientation of at least one of the axes of rotation is adjustable. An agricultural implement comprises at least one such row unit and a method of adjusting a row unit.

Abstract: A system for dispensing agricultural products includes at least one source of agricultural product; at least one agricultural product tube, a seed sensing device, a metering system, and a sensor assembly. At least one agricultural product tube is connected to the source of agricultural product. The seed sensing device is configured to control the delivery of the agricultural product. The metering system is coupled to at least one agricultural product tube and to the seed sensing device and is configured to synchronize the placement of agricultural product relative to the placement of seed. A sensor assembly includes a signal conditioning circuit. The signal conditioning circuit is configured to provide an output signal representing an indication of the presence of the agricultural product. At least one seed for use in determining the synchronized placement of seed and the agricultural product in correct proximity with one another in a seed furrow.

Abstract: The press wheel has instrumentation associated therewith detecting a rolling of the wheel over a planted set. A computing device is connected to the instrumentation and to the speed monitoring device of the planter. The computing device determines spacings between planted sets. The data obtained is real-time data and is readily available to the operator of the planter so that the speed of the planter can be adjusted on the fly to maintain an ideal set spacing. The press wheel has a soft, smooth, flexible and stretchable rolling surface capable of deforming over a planted set and detecting an imprint of the planted set in the surface thereof, without damaging the planted set. A contact signature of the rolling of the press wheel over a planted set shows that the “rolling on” of the press wheel over a planted set is as smooth as the “rolling away” from the planted set.

Abstract: Row unit coupling devices for securing a pair of row units to an agricultural implement. The row unit coupling devices can be pivotally coupled to the tool bar, and/or utilize a biasing element. Further, the row unit coupling devices can arrange the pair of row units in a partial overlapping side-by-side arrangement where one row unit extends further upstream than the other row unit. Such an arrangement allows wider regions of at least neighboring pairs of row units to be offset from each other, thereby accommodating closer placement of the row units, which can facilitate narrower crop row spacing. The row unit coupling devices also accommodate differences in the vertical position and/or angular orientations at least between the pair of row units, which can facilitate the row units being maintained in an orientation at which seeds are planted in a direction that is generally perpendicular to the ground surface.

In some embodiments. at least one mower is mounted ahead of the row unit assembly to provide mulched crop residue for processing by the coulter disc. The system may also include a product redirection system and a modular opener assembly for selectively configuring the placement of agricultural product in a furrow.
