Abstract: An intervertebral prosthesis for insertion between adjacent vertebrae includes upper and lower prosthesis plates locatable against respective vertebrae and having opposing concavely curved recesses therein, and a core located between the plates. The core has opposed, convexly curved surfaces received in the recesses of the plates to allow the plates to slide in articulated manner over the core. The opposed surfaces of the core and the recesses of the plates have cooperating spherical curvatures. The recess of each plate surrounds a locating peg projecting centrally from the base of the recess and is bounded by an annular rim, such that the annular rims of the plates are arranged to contact one another at a predetermined limit of sliding movement of the plates over the core. The peg locates loosely in an opening located centrally in a curved surface of the core, whereby the plates can slide over the core in all directions while the peg holds the core captive.

Abstract: A bone fusion method, system and device for insertion between bones that are to be fused together in order to replace degenerated discs and/or bones, for example, the vertebrae of a spinal column. The bone fusion device comprises a frame and one or more extendable plates that are able to be angled, rotatable, adjustable, and have top profiles designed to correct and/or match the replaced discs/bones. The bone fusion device is able to be inserted between or replace the vertebrae by using a minimally invasive procedure wherein the dimensions and/or other characteristics of the bone fusion device are selectable based on the type of minimally invasive procedure.

Abstract: The glenohumeral component of the invention comprises a first side and a second side, which are opposite each other and which, in an implanted state in which the glenohumeral component is free-floating with respect to a humerus and a glenoid of a human shoulder, are in contact respectively with an end portion of the humerus and with a glenoid component intended to be secured to the glenoid. The first side of the glenohumeral component includes a convex articular surface that is designed to articulate with a concave bone surface prepared within the end portion of the humerus. The second side of the glenohumeral component includes a concave articular surface that is designed to articulate with a convex articular surface of the glenoid component. The corresponding shoulder prosthesis is thus reversed. Moreover, the articular interface between the glenoid component, which is secured to the glenoid, and the rest of the prosthesis has double mobility, which provides a greater range of motion between the glenoid and the humerus.

Abstract: A bone fusion device provides stability to bones during a bone fusion period. The bones include, for example, the vertebrae of a spinal column. The bone fusion device comprises one or more extendable tabs attached to the bone fusion device by associated rotating means. The bone fusion device is preferably inserted by using an arthroscopic surgical procedure. During arthroscopic insertion of the device, the tabs are pre-configured for compactness. In this compact configuration, the tabs are preferably deposed along and/or within an exterior surface of the bone fusion device. After the bone fusion device has been positioned between the bones, one or more tab(s) are extended. In the preferred embodiment, the position of each tab is related to a positioning element and extending blocks. Typically, the tabs advantageously position and brace the bone fusion device in the confined space between the bones until the bones have fused.

Abstract: A spacer for an artificial spinal disc arrangement is provided. The artificial disc arrangement includes an upper plate, a lower plate, and articulating surfaces between the upper and lower plates arranged to permit motion between the upper and lower plates. The spacer has a first surface for contacting the upper plate and a second surface for contacting the lower plate and is of sufficient thickness such that, when disposed between the upper and lower plates, the spacer limits motion between the upper and lower plates. An artificial disc, a method of limiting motion of an artificial disc in a patient, and a method of performing spinal disc surgery are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention provides artificial disc prostheses, methods and instrumentation for implantation and revision thereof. Each prosthesis may comprise superior and inferior end plates and a nucleus positioned between articular surfaces of the end plates. The end plates may have planar bone engagement surfaces with a plurality of self-cutting teeth. The articular surfaces of the end plates may be planar or include a flattened portion. The nucleus includes superior and inferior articular surfaces which may comprise flattened portions such that when the articular surfaces of the nucleus and the end plates are placed in cooperation in a preferred orientation, the flattened and/or planar portions are aligned. Each prosthesis may provide flexion/extension, anterior/posterior translation, lateral bending, and/or axial rotation degrees of freedom. One embodiment comprises a prosthesis with a first joint providing flexion/extension and anterior/posterior translation, and a second joint providing lateral bending and axial rotation.
