Abstract: An ultrasonic transducer for wind turbine applications. The transducer includes a housing with a central diaphragm portion, a peripheral wall thereabout, and a flexure portion supporting the diaphragm portion relative to the peripheral wall. The apex of a cone is secured to the housing central diaphragm portion and the cone has a peripheral rim secured to the metal housing peripheral wall. A driver such as a piezoelectric element is secured to the housing central diaphragm portion opposite the cone apex.

Abstract: A high intensity ultrasonic sound generator for producing bursts of ultrasonic frequency and a method of controlling vermin and pests by projecting such bursts into a space from which such vermin and pests are desired to be eradicated. The apparatus has a transformerless power supply employing a voltage divider with a low leakage input capacitor and an output capacitor having a significantly larger capacitance than that of the input capacitor, and wherein the load is voltage dependent so that the greater the charge on the output capacitor, the greater the load and, therefore, the output capacitor is prevented from excessively charging. Ultrasound frequency is generated by two astable multivibrators one of which duty cycles the other and means are provided to vary the frequency within each burst and the burst interval. Means are provided, including parallel LC network with the transducer, which may be set to resonance, in order to reduce unwanted audio, and also including means for rounding the envelope of the bursts of ultrasonic frequency. The speaker includes a free floating cone, with no other mechanical connection than its mechanical connection to the transducer.

Abstract: Apparatus for use as an ultrasonic pest repeller capable of having three different modes of operation for the purpose of generating ultrasonic signals for use in repelling all types of pests. The apparatus includes a circuit coupled at its output with one or more ultrasonic transducers and the circuit operates to generate electronic signals which are applied to the transducer or transducers for creating the ultrasonic signals in any one of three different modes of operation including a first mode in which a steady, modulated signal is generated, a second mode in which a dual pulse signal is generated with modulation of each pulse, and a third mode in which a signal is swept over a band of frequencies and is modulated simultaneously with the sweeping action. The circuit includes a rectifier for providing a DC regulated voltage. Moreover, the circuit includes components for generating a 60 Hz modulating voltage and a pair of timers which are coupled together and operated when a three-pole, three-position switch is selectively actuated, one of the timers being operable to generate a predetermined on-off voltage used to control the operation of the other timer, the output of the other timer supplying power to the transducer or transducers in the selected mode of operation of the circuit.

Abstract: An ultra-sonic pest control apparatus includes a tone generator for generating an output frequency as a function of applied voltage, a transducer electrically connected to the output of the tone generator for delivering ultra-sonic sound, and a generator for generating a periodically repeating sawtooth waveform. A gating oscillator connected to the tone generator and generator emits a frequency sweep responsive to each sawtooth pattern of the sawtooth waveforms and uniformly chops a portion of each frequency sweep and passes the chopped frequency sweeps at predetermined, uniform, timed intervals to the transducer.

Abstract: A broadband ultrasonic transducer device (UTD) is disclosed that utilizes a plurality of narrow-band piezo electric elements grouped into single-frequency sub-arrays to provide a relatively simple, highly-reliable deterrent unit (DU) capable of emitting ultrasonic energy over a wide coverage area and at a sound pressure level that meets or exceeds other DU approaches. In an embodiment, the broadband UTD includes a housing portion configured to couple to a plurality of piezo sub-array plates. Each piezo sub-array plate includes a plurality of pockets or cavities to receive respective narrow-band (e.g., 1-3 kHz) piezo electro transducer elements with characteristics, e.g., geometries and material composition, that cause each to emit ultrasonic energy at a particular resonant frequency. A controller of the UTD implements a control scheme to emit ultrasonic energy in a plurality of output modes including a white noise node and a single-frequency mode for deterrence applications.

Abstract: An ultrasonic sound emitting apparatus produces an undesireable noise for animals such as dogs and cats to deter such animals from trespassing within certain geographical locations with this noise being of such a high frequency level that it is not heard by most human beings. The apparatus includes a housing with an ultrasonic emitter being mounted within a reflector cone formed within the front face of the housing. The sound emitter is moveable relative to the cone between a projected position and a retracted position and when in the retracted position the pattern of sound emitted is substantially wider than when the emitter is in the projected position. With the emitter in the projected position the pattern of sound emitted is of substantially greater length than the pattern of sound with the emitter in the retracted position. A sensor such as an infrared sensor is to be mounted within the front face of the housing which will cause activation of the emitter only upon an animal being detected.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for producing ultrasonic sound waves used to disperse rodents including negative feedback damping of a tuned band-pass filter output circuit. An electrical signal is frequency modulated, amplitude modulated asynchronously with the frequency modulation, pulsed on and off and applied to a speaker to produce ultrasonic sound waves corresponding thereto. Abstract: An ultrasonic system for intermittently producing pulses of energy for permanently repelling rats and other noxious fauna. The system includes a voltage-controlled oscillator capable of generating an ultrasonic signal whose frequency lies within a range to which noxious fauna are highly sensitive. Means are provided to apply voltages intermittently to the oscillator to produce an output signal whose frequency depends on the applied voltage and to convey this signal for a brief period to one or more ultrasonic transducers arranged to irradiate an infested area, the applied voltages having random values whereby each radiated pulse of energy has a different frequency and rats exposed to the ultrasonic pulses are unable to acquire deaf immunity.

Abstract: A low duty cycle relaxation oscillator periodically gates an ultrasonic frequency relaxation oscillator into an on state. The ultrasonic frequency oscillations are supplied to an electric-compressional wave transducer by way of a push-pull driver. The duty cycle and repetition rate of the relaxation oscillator and the ultrasonic oscillation frequency are such that compressional waves derived by the transducer incident on fleas in the region where the transducer is located repels the fleas. All active elements in the oscillator and driver are CMOS devices which draw only leakage current while in quiescent bi-level states and through current from a battery during transitions between the bi-level states. The drain from the battery is reduced by connecting a high impedance between the battery and the CMOS devices during a relaxation oscillator transition.
