    Abstract: The invention relates to a two-part piston (1) for an internal combustion engine, consisting of an upper part (2) and a lower part (3) which is screwed to the upper part. The upper part (2) and the lower part (3) are in contact with each other, partially by means of inner bearing surfaces (25, 26) defining the lower side of an upper ring rib (10) and the upper side of a lower ring rib (11), and partially by means of outer bearing surfaces (28, 29) defining the lower side of the ring wall (9) and the upper side of a collar (27) applied to the lower part (29). In order to avoid frictional rubbing, frictional heat sealing and pressure-related material heat sealing, at least one of the bearing surfaces (25, 26, 28, 29) is easily and economically provided with a chrome layer (30) which has a structured surface comprising a plurality of raised parts and recesses.

    Abstract: Although modern diesel fuel formulations are intended to reduce emissions of diesel engines, at least some of those modern fuels tend to have relatively low lubricity levels. The control valve assemblies described herein help to minimize any increased wear that would otherwise result from the use of such low lubricity fuels by providing a valve element, a valve guide, and an insert. The valve element is received within the valve guide and is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The insert forms a first sealed interface and a second sealed interface with the valve element and the valve guide. When the valve element is in the closed position, both of the first sealed interface and the second sealed interface are engaged. When the valve element is in the open position, only one of the first sealed interface and the second sealed interface is engaged.

    Abstract: A refrigerant compressor includes a first layer (24) composed of a single layer of chromium, a second layer (25) composed of an alloy layer of chromium and tungsten carbide, a third layer (26) composed of an amorphous carbon layer containing at least one of tungsten and tungsten carbide, and a fourth layer (27) composed of an amorphous carbon layer containing carbon and hydrogen without metals, which are sequentially formed on a surface of a sliding member (13b) of a compression mechanism formed of tool steel. The second layer (25) is formed to have a chromium content higher on a side of the first layer (24) than a side of the third layer (26), and have a tungsten carbide content higher on the side of the third layer (26) than the side of the first layer (24). In addition, the third layer (26) is formed to have a tungsten content or a tungsten carbide content higher on a side of the second layer (25) than a side of the fourth layer (27).
