Abstract: There is provided a reading apparatus including: a user interface; a communication interface; a scanner; and a controller configured to execute a first scan in response to an instruction to execute the first scan based on an operation to the user interface, and a second scan based on an instruction to execute the second scan from an external apparatus connected to the reading apparatus via the communication interface. The controller is configured to: execute the first scan without requiring authentication in a case where the controller receives, via the user interface, the instruction to execute the first scan; and perform the authentication in a case where the controller receives, via the communication interface, the instruction to execute the second scan, and then execute the second scan in a case where the authentication succeeds and not execute the second scan in a case where the authentication fails.

Abstract: A medium discharge device includes a discharge roller pair that is provided with a discharge driving roller and a discharge driven roller which drivably rotates in contact with the discharge driving roller, and a medium receiving tray which receives the medium that is fed and discharged by the discharge roller pair, in which the medium receiving tray includes a guide member which guides such that a tip end of the medium which is discharged from the discharge roller pair enters the medium mounting surface at a predetermined angle, and the guide member is provided to be elastically displaceable in an advancing and retreating direction with respect to the medium mounting surface of the medium receiving tray and is displaced in a direction coming close to the medium mounting surface according to raising of a pressing load due to the medium that is discharged to the medium receiving tray.

Abstract: In a reading device, a light transmissive member has a front surface on which an original is placed. A peripheral member is adjacent to the light transmissive member, and includes a back surface in which a reference hole is formed. The reference hole includes a first edge and a second edge intersecting with each other. A reading sensor faces the back surface of the light transmissive member and the back surface of the peripheral member. The controller controls the reading sensor to read a reading range including the reference hole to obtain a read image, and determines a reference position in the reading range based on the read image. The reference position is determined to an intersection between the first edge and the second edge. The controller sets a reading start position based on the reference position.

Abstract: A card scanner includes a card support mechanism for receiving a card and a first camera. A first light source is mounted so that a first image of a first side of the card captured by the first camera reflects to the first camera so that a first bright region created by light reflected by the first side of the card from the first light source is within a first location on the first side of the card. A second light source is mounted so that a second image of the first side of the card captured by the first camera reflects to the first camera so that a second bright region created by light reflected by the first side of the card from the second light source is within a second location on the first side of the card, wherein the first location and the second location do not overlap. An image processor combines the first image of the first side of the card with the second image of the first side of the card to produce a first combined image, the first bright region and the second bright region being filtered from the first combined image by the image processor.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatuses for processing a digital image of a document, for example, to determine whether the document is a long document. An exemplary method generally includes obtaining a plurality of digital images of the document, segmenting at least a first digital image of the plurality of images into pixels associated with a foreground of the first digital image and pixels associated with a background of the first digital image, detecting a plurality of contours in the segmented first digital image, deciding, for each detected contour of the plurality of contours, whether that contour is an open contour or a closed contour, and determining that one or more sides of the document is out-of-bounds based, at least in part, on the decisions.
