Abstract:
A system for substantially continuously providing a solid material, for example pulverized coal, to a pressurized container. The system provides the solid material to a first container of a first pressure elevated above an initial pressure of the solid material. Generally, a screw conveyor augmented with a jet port is used to move the material where the jet port provides a gas to provide a make-up volume of the solid material. The system also provides the material to a second high pressure container after the material has been formed into a slurry. Therefore, the solid material may be substantially continuously provided in a system to a high pressure container.
Abstract:
This invention is to a method and system for operating a hydrocarbon conversion process. A two stage reactor system is used in which the gas superficial velocity of the second reaction stage is greater than that in the first reaction stage. The first reaction stage operates at more continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) like characteristics, and the second reaction stage operates at more plug flow reactor (PFR) like characteristics.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a multi-tier bypass apparatus for extending the operating life of fixed bed reactors. The multi-tier bypass may be disposed within a fixed catalyst bed to allow any fluid feedstock to bypass successive layers of the fixed catalyst bed as they foul. The invention also relates to an improved fixed bed reactor comprising the inventive multi-tier bypass and a method for extending the operating life of a fixed bed reactor.
Abstract:
A device and method allow a dry catalyst to be delivered to a liquid-filled polymerization reactor, thus avoiding problems associated with catalyst-liquid contact or with undesired addition of gases to the reactor. A quantity of dry catalyst is transferred from a catalyst reservoir maintained under dry conditions to a catalyst chamber. An inert fluid then enters the chamber to flush the catalyst charge toward the reactor. Optional embodiments include means for precontacting the dry catalyst with a modifier and for removing gas from the fluid line.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a reactor for reacting a feedstock, said reactor comprising, a fixed catalyst bed for reaction of said feedstock said reactor containing a bypass apparatus disposed within said fixed catalyst bed, said bypass apparatus being aligned with the direction of flow of said feedstock, and wherein said bypass apparatus comprise a cage member comprising a first elongated hollow member having a top wall, sidewalls and a bottom wall, said cage member having openings therein, and a second hollow elongated member for passing said feedstock therethrough, said second hollow elongated member being disposed within and protruding through said top wall of said cage member and wherein said second elongated member extends above said catalyst bed through said cage member.
Abstract:
A continuous method for performing a hydrosilylation reaction comprising effecting a hydrosilylation reaction between a liquid organosilicon compound (A) having in each molecule at least one silicon-bonded hydrogen atom and a liquid organosilicon compound (B) having in each molecule at least one aliphatic unsaturated bond in the presence of a platinum catalyst (C) continuously in a tubular reactor equipped with a stirring and plug-flow maintaining apparatus located within the reactor.
Abstract:
A reactor for producing a nitrile compound from a carbon ring or heterocyclic compound having organic substituents by a gas phase reaction using a fluidized catalyst bed with ammonia and a gas containing oxygen. In a cylindrical fluidized catalyst bed having a diameter of 2.0 meters or greater, partial vaporization-type cooling tubes (the cooling medium is partially vaporized in the tubes) and complete vaporization-type cooling tubes (the cooling medium is completely vaporized in the cooling tubes) are disposed in a specific arrangement. Water containing ionic SiO2 in 0.1 ppm or smaller and having an electric conductivity of 5 nullS/cm or smaller is used as the cooling medium for the complete vaporization-type cooling tubes. The temperature of the reaction is easily stabilized and uniform distribution of temperature is obtained in the fluidized catalyst bed. Stable continuous operation is achieved for a long time in a commercial scale apparatus.
Abstract:
This invention provides a resid cracking apparatus comprising a riser, reactor, stripper cum separator with adjustable outlets in flow communication with adsorbent and catalyst regenerators for converting hydrocarbon residues containing higher concentration of conradson carbon content, poisonous metals such as nickel & vanadium and basic nitrogen etc., into lighter and valuable products and a process thereof.
Abstract:
A fluidizing reactor for treatment of fluid is provided. The fluidizing reactor includes an elongated column having an interior chamber extending between a first end and a second end of the column. The reactor also includes a plenum situated circumferentially about the second end of the column, and an inlet tangentially positioned relative to plenum, so as to introduce fluid to be treated into the plenum. The tangential position of the inlet imparts to the fluid a uniform cyclonic flow pattern circumferentially about the column. The reactor further includes an annulus about the second end of the column to provide an opening through which fluid from the plenum may enter into the interior chamber. Fluid flowing through the annulus is uniformly distributed into the interior chamber and maintains a cyclonic flow pattern. A fluid treatment material may be provided to treat the fluid flowing into the interior chamber.
