Abstract:
A clutch mechanism having an easy-to-manufacture and inexpensive constitution, by making use of frictional engaging force in thrust direction, in a coat film transfer tool of automatic winding type. At least at the feed reel side, a clutch mechanism is provided between a driven member of a tape winding portion and a drive side rotary gear for rotating and driving it, and its power transmission makes use of the frictional engaging force in thrust direction between the driven member and drive side rotary gear. This frictional engaging force can be set by properly adjusting the dimensional relation in thrust direction between the mutual constituent members, and therefore the designing and manufacturing conditions of the constituent members are less strict, manufacture is easy, assembling is easy, and hence the manufacturing cost and device cost can be lowered.
Abstract:
A cosmetic unit comprising two different applicators each with a stem, each of the applicators dipping into a respective reservoir; each reservoir having an externally threaded neck on which to screw a coupling member; and the two reservoirs being releasably attachable to each other via a coupling sleeve by means of the coupling members which are screwed on and which simultaneously serve as a closure cap. The coupling members in the form of screw caps are non-rotarily attachable to the coupling sleeve by an axial serration and axially tightly attachable thereto by a beaded section engaging with a locking groove.

An apparatus for coating sheet metal strip substrate with lubricant type laminate includes top and bottom roller coaters for pinching the metal therebetween. Each roller coater includes an applicator roll supported between three contact points provided by two support rolls and the sheet metal surface itself. As such the applicator roll can be without and axle and freely removable. The applicator roll is driven by the movement of the metal strip. The roller coaters are movable between engaged and disengaged positions. When in the disengaged position, support brackets on the top roller coater prevent the applicator roll from dropping and replace the bottom support of the sheet metal. Pneumatic cylinders for actuating the top and bottom roller coaters are operatively connected such that the top and bottom roller coaters can “float” or move vertically while at the same time pinching the metal strip therebetween. One of the support rolls also acts as a lubricant transfer roll to transfer lubricant from a plurality of dispensing heads to the applicator roll. The dispensing heads include a cylindrically shaped recess surface receiving the transfer roll and a longitudinal outlet slot thereon for supplying lubricant to the transfer roll. The cylindrically shaped recess surface is spring loaded against the transfer roll. A manifold connects the dispensing heads to a electrically actuated solenoid valve. An electronic controller selectively modulates the solenoid valve to set an application rate for lubricant.
Abstract:
An applicator for applying an adhesive to a spine or adjoining regions of a book block conveyed guided past the applicator along a conveying plane in a conveying direction includes a trough for holding the adhesive. At least one applicator roller protrudes into the trough and is arranged for transferring adhesive onto the spine of the book block for forming an adhesive layer on the spine. The roller is driven in a direction which is the same as the conveying direction and defines an approach region in which the surface of the roller approaches the conveying plane. A sharply-pointed separating wedge is disposed downstream of the approach region of the applicator roller and forms a separating region for the supplied adhesive between the applicator roller and the conveying plane of the book block.

An oil coating roller comprising a porous round-rod-like molded product, a heat-resistant fiber felt layer provided on an outer circumference of the porous round-rod-like molded product, and a porous film applied onto an outer circumference of the felt layer. The porous round-rod-like molded product contains heat-resistant fibers bound to each other by a binder, and has fine communicating voids free from the binder among the fibers and evenly distributed pores having a pore size in a range of from 0.05 to 2 mm and a total void percentage in a range of from 30 to 90%. The porous round-rod-like molded product is impregnated with silicone oil. The heat-resistant fiber felt layer has a thickness in a range of from 0.5 to 5 mm. The porous film has a thickness in a range of from 15 to 130 &mgr;m, a mean pore size in a range of from 0.1 to 3.0 &mgr;m, a porosity in a range of from 60 to 90% and an air permeability in a range of from 3 to 1500 sec per 100 cc.
Abstract:
A fluid deposit assembly mounted on a carrier for depositing minute drops of fluid at selected locations upon a substrate, comprising a deposit element having an exposed tip of diameter of 0.3 mm or less constructed and arranged to carry and deposit drops of fluid upon the substrate, stable lateral reference surfaces or surface portions exposed for engagement by the deposit element, the surfaces or surface portions being constructed and arranged to prevent X, Y displacement of the deposit element relative to the carrier when the deposit element is urged thereagainst and design for urging the deposit element against the reference surfaces or surface portions at least at the time that the deposit element approaches a substrate to deposit a fluid drop. The reference surfaces or surface portions and the design for urging are cooperating to precisely position the deposit tip in a precisely desired position as it contacts the substrate. The deposit element is shown as the tip of an axially moveable pin. The reference surface portion is shown, among others, as a surface of revolution whose axis is disposed at a predetermined position relative to the carrier. A mobile supply in the form of a multiwell plate is moved under computer control to be a close companion of the deposit device, enabling rapid deposit action and avoidance of evaporative effects that can alter the consistency of dots in the array being formed. The device can deposit one dot on top of another from fluid in a mobile multiwell plate that moves to be close to the deposit device.
Abstract:
The fluid applicator device includes a handle member, a dispensing member, an applicator member and a fluid dispensing mechanism. The handle member acts as a container member adapted to receive and store a fluid. The handle member has an opening, and has a closure device openable and closeable at the opening for insertion of at least one of: a fluid; and a fluid-containing cartridge. The handle member dispensing end connected to a dispensing member that is elongated and substantially cylindrical. The dispensing member has a plurality of apertures to create a dispensing manifold. The hollow applicator member is located around the dispensing member, and may preferably fully extend over the end of the dispensing member, as well. The hollow applicator member is an absorbent, deformable, resilient, sponge-like material, and it is rotatably connected to the dispensing member.
Abstract:
A machine for confining cigarettes or packets of cigarettes in converted blanks of paper, cardboard or the like employs a paster serving to apply adhesive to selected portions of successive blanks of a series of moving blanks. In order to compensate for wear upon and/or for misalignment of the paster and/or a back support for the blanks during application of adhesive, the back support is adjustable relative to the paster and/or vice versa in several directions. Such adjustability ensures predictable application of adhesive, such as hot melt, to predetermined portions of the blanks. The back support and/or the paster is or can be biased to a predetermined position relative to the path for the moving blanks.
Abstract:
A lane maintenance machine having wicks that absorb dressing from a reservoir and transfer it to the applicator of the machine has a gravity-fed dressing supply system that maintains the dressing at a substantially constant level within the wick reservoir. A small pilot chamber upstream from the reservoir and in open communication therewith at the same elevation as the reservoir has its fluid level directly controlled by a float sensor to in turn indirectly control the level within the wick reservoir. The float sensor within the pilot chamber provides a signal to a controller when the level within the pilot chamber drops below a predetermined point so that a control valve between the pilot chamber and the main supply tank opens to allow a makeup volume of dressing to flow by gravity from the main tank into the pilot chamber. Vent conduits associated with the main tank and the pilot chamber also serve as a means for accepting dressing that drains from the reservoir when the machine is upended into a transport position, thus preventing spillage of dressing through the open top of the wick reservoir.
