Abstract:
An incandescent automotive lamp having a glass envelope with a polyetherimide sleeve attached to a press-sealed end of the glass envelope. The sleeve includes a base portion having an interior passage that permits the sleeve to be slid onto the press-sealed end. Attached to the base portion of the sleeve are a pair of opposed locking members, with each locking member having a free, cantilevered end located near the bottom side of the base portion. When the sleeve is assembled onto the press-sealed end of the glass envelope, the free end engages an associated bearing surface on the press-sealed end which inhibits the sleeve from sliding back off the glass envelope. The polyetherimide sleeve is capable of withstanding relative high temperature operation of the lamp without outgassing of the plastic, and the locking members allow secure attachment of the sleeve to the glass envelope without cracking of the polyetherimide material.
Abstract:
A high intensity discharge lamp (10) has an outer envelope (12) having a cup-shaped top (14), a hollow center section (16) and a bottom (18) all aligned along a longitudinal axis (20), the bottom (18) including a flare (22) having a pinch seal (24) with in-leads (26, 28) sealed therein. A mount structure (30) is positioned within the envelope, the mount structure including a frame (32) comprising a spaced-apart pair of side frames (34, 36) extending substantially the length of the envelope (12) and parallel to the longitudinal axis. The side frames (34,36) have middle portions (35,37) carrying an arc tube (38) and a surrounding shield (40), and the side frames further have an upper portion that frictionally engages the inside surface of the cup-shaped top (14), the upper portion comprising two ends (42, 44) extending in a direction normal to the longitudinal axis and having a space (50) therebetween.
Abstract:
A foamable copolymer based coupling is provided for securely affixing a light emitting glass lamp in a metal base to form a lamp assembly. The copolymer is preferably selected from ethylene vinyl acetate, ethylene methyl acrylate, and combinations thereof. The foamable coupling may be placed around one end of the glass lamp or in the lamp base before the lamp and base are matingly engaged. The assembled lamp is then heated to a temperature, which causes the foamable coupling to expand and securely affix the lamp in the base.
Abstract:
An arc tube is a connected bulb composed of three U-shaped bulbs that are set annularly on a holder and connected by a bridge connector to include a serpentine discharge path. Electrodes are provided at both ends of the connected bulb. A reflector is set in a space enclosed by the three U-shaped bulbs, with a predetermined positional relation with the holder. The reflector has a reflecting part which reflects light emitted from the arc tube, and a fixing part positioned at the end of the reflecting part. The holder has an insertion hole which allows the reflecting part to pass through but not the fixing part. The reflector is mounted to the holder by inserting the reflecting part into the insertion hole from the side of the holder opposite to the arc tube, and passing the reflecting part through the insertion hole to the other side.
Abstract:
An electric light bulb with a base 1, including a positioning ring 7 adapted to be fitted onto and mounted to a cylindrical-shaped base 2 which holds a glass bulb 3 enclosing therein filaments 6. The positioning ring includes elastic pieces 11 and weld pieces 12 formed on a fitting hole 8, through which the base is inserted, the elastic pieces being adapted to resiliently abut against an outer peripheral surface of the base, the weld pieces being adapted to be welded to the outer peripheral surface of the base. The weld pieces 12 are securely welded to the outer peripheral surface of the base after the elastic pieces are made to abut against the outer peripheral surface of the base.
Abstract:
A lamp bulb (1) made from glass is sealed at one end by a pinch (2). A base (5) is fastened on the pinch (2) by means of a metal spring (6). The base (5) has a holder (7) loosely adapted to the pinch (2). The metal spring (6; 26) is bent in a U-shaped fashion and comprises a base part (11) and two limbs (12, 13) which embrace the pinch, the fastening of the base (5) being accomplished by virtue of the fact that one limb (12) is aligned essentially parallel to the longitudinal axis, but simultaneously has a transverse extent accessible to spring forces, the transverse extent of this limb being stressed by the holder (7) of the base.
Abstract:
A fluorescent lamp includes an arc tube 2 made of a glass, a holder 3 made of a heat-resistant resin for supporting the arc tube, and a case 5 having a base 6 and combined with the holder. The glass of the arc tube has light transmittance of 70% or less with respect to a wavelength of 340 nm, 50% or less with respect to 330 nm, and 15% or less with respect to 310 nm. The glass suppresses vaporization of the resin of the holder due to heat and ultraviolet ray emitted from the arc tube, thereby preventing adhesion of scattered resin to the inner surface of a globe of a lighting fixture.
Abstract:
The electric lamp is provided with a cap (3) having a metal shell (8). The shell (8) comprises a cylindrical part (44) which is coupled to a conical part (42) via a rounding (43). By choosing the angle &bgr; between the second part (52) of the conical part (42) and the cylindrical part (44) smaller than the angle &agr;between the first part (51) of the conical part (42) and the cylindrical part (44), the axial strength of the metal shell (8) is increased.
Abstract:
A cathode ray tube has a vacuum envelope formed of a panel portion supporting a phosphor film on an inner surface thereof, a neck housing an electron gun, a funnel joining the panel and the neck, and a stem sealing an open end of the neck and mounting the electron gun via a plurality of pins extending through the stem. The inside diameters at the open end sealed by the stem and vicinities thereof become gradually larger toward the open end sealed by the stem, or retain at least a value substantially equal to an inside diameter of a major portion of the neck.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a lamp having a lamp capsule consisting of a glass bulb containing filaments sealed therein with a substantially flat pinch-sealed portion being formed integrally at one end of the glass bulb, and being held at the pinch-sealed portion by a retaining plate; the lamp comprising a plurality of holding pieces for chucking the pinch-sealed portion, formed on the retaining plate; and thick-wall portions formed at that end of the pinch-sealed portion which constitutes the boundary with the glass bulb, except for the crosswise middle part of the pinch-sealed portion, so that the thick-wall portions may be brought into contact with the holding pieces.
